The topper rack. Does it slide out of the tracks without too much issue?

You could take it off. It's just one bolt per crossbar/track. I haven't had any issues with it snagging and leave it up there all the time.

Cool cool did you get the 54 or 59 inch bars? I think these may be the solution to my problem.

    54"

59's would stick out past the sides. 54's are close as it is.

I bought all of my components used on ebay with the exception of the tracks which I bought new off of Amazon. I just went to orsracksdirect and pieced together a kit to determine which components I needed, then bought them all separate used.

Not a bad idea either. I will have to keep all of this in mind for when I have some disposable income to throw into a rack.

Yea man thats the set up Im goin for. I dont have the factory rack on my cab but am probably going to do one of the permanent mount yakima options. What type of mount is that you have your kakays on? Also, what are the pros to carrying your kayak on the side rather than hull down? Seems like it would be more difficult to load & more expensive so Im sure theres a good reason people choose to carry that way.

    Thanks for the input.

That's the Yakima Big Stack. I like it since it can carry two with one set vs. buying 2 sets of J-hooks. Loading isn't bad, I throw it up there flat then rotate it on its side. I also like the fact that I have room to put some bike mounts up there and can haul those at the same time.

Leer canopy with Thule/Yakima rack system w/fittings for kayaks, canoe, bikes & cargo basket
I am having my brand new Leer canopy with factory installed roof tracks installed at a local Leer dealer in Anchorage nxt wknd. The local Leer dlr is trying to tell me Yakima towers are not compatible with the Leer tracks. He says only Thule towers can be installed on the Leer tracks.

I'm a little suspicious of his claim since I've seen several pictures on this forum what looks like Yakima towers on Leer canopies.

Have any of you had any personal experience putting Yakima towers on a Leer canopy with their factory installed tracks?

Thx in advance for any assistance & knowledge y'all can provide.

    All the best,
    GoState99755

While I've never installed it that way, I'm pretty confident with Yakima's adjustability in that it would fit just fine.

I've got a Yakima setup on a Leer shell. Tracks came with the shell, you can see the landing pad in the background of the picture (sorry, only picture I've got showing the track)

    DSCN4955_7662d94f08c26bfe134ca8ca67a8be2cc12c60b4.jpg

In order to install the landing pads you'll need to remove the plastic piece at the end of the track in order to slide some pieces in, it's held in by an allen bolt. I'm pretty sure it's metric but can't remember. If you ever plan on running more than a couple of crossbars, now is a good time to get the base pieces and install them. Be generous with RTV when you reinstall the bolt, otherwise you'll likely get leaks.

Everyone has camper shells it seems.. does anyone have pics of hauling a kayak without a shell? Shells are great, I just don't use one personally.

I have a Shell, but don't use it for my Kayaks. Here's a picture of my two 12' kayaks mounted on the trucks rack only.
