Here's my new wheels and tires. Its an '05 Tacoma with 187,000 miles on stock suspension. I'm long overdue for getting that Icon / Total Chaos lift I have been wanting.

I got Mickey Thompson Classic III wheels, 16" diameter x 8" wide with 4.5" backspacing. I also had to get some extended thread (ET) nuts which are necessary for these rims.

The tires are Michelin LTX A/T2 LT245/75 R16. I chose these because I'm 99% of the time on asphalt but do venture offroad the odd weekend going to dirtbike runs and camping. No real wheeling in my Tacoma. This size also provides the best fuel economy and also provides the best acceleration and responsiveness, and are especially good for towing my camper trailer with the small diameter and stiff sidewalls. They are not loud at all - almost as quiet as my LTX MS2 Winter tires (in the same size).

So far so good. I really like them.

The instructions that came with the wheels said that they do not come with a clear coat or polish and that it is important to look after them. They recommend using a wheel wax on them when new and then periodically. They also said to avoid buildup of brake dust. They are supposed to be washed and dried then waxed. I didn't realize there was that little bit of extra maintenance with these wheels but that's ok because they look great and because of the simple shape they should be easy to wash and wax.

They drive great, no swaying. They are 10 ply tires so they have stiff sidewalls. I quite like the way they hold the road.

They do look good! How much is the gas mileage increase with the 245's?
