Shell input...

I was pretty set on picking up a A.R.E cx for my 12 but I have read a few places talking about paint damage from the plastic rails. Even the dealer warned me of possible issues (he is next door to a Toyota dealership). Not really sure what to do cause I need the extra room but I want keep the truck in great shape. I was wondering if anybody else had problems like these? And why do so many people sell their shells? Thanks.

 

I have never heard that on the second gens before. I have seen on trucks that have removable plastic bedliners, the liner moves a little and causes paint issues.

 

I have the CX series cap and I see no paint damage on my truck. I see nowhere near the plastic rails that can cause paint damage? I'd get it again in a heartbeat!

I don't even notice my shell being on the truck. Don't feel heavy at all...
I have the windoors. This helps prevent me from crawling in the shell to get items. It's an awesome feature

 

Do you guys that are selling caps because " they are too heavy " refuse to carry passengers too ? I mean that's the kind of weight we are talking about

 

We bought a Ranch topper,
Did not notice weight, or suspension sag.
No paint issues with Ranch.
Clean fit with good clearance.

 

Thanks for all the info...I am not really worried about the extra 150 pounds it will add because I need more dry storage.

 

Oh , so your issue is with the weight of it for taking it on and off ?

A hoist system works well
