So I installed my new valve covers and while putting it together I tried very hard (me and a certified mechanic friend) to make sure everything was hooked up so we wouldn't have to take it all apart again. Well immediately after (on my first drive since the fix) the CEL came on. It threw codes for both knock sensors, I guess I must of missed a plug.

My question is where would I look for the connector for the knock sensors?

Is there something else I could have done to make it throw both codes?

Thank you very much, but that leads me to another issue, I didn't remove the manifold, just the upper and lower plenum, so is there any other connection point I could have effected in there?

Also do you happen to know if the wires coming off then goto the front or the back of the engine?

Do you know off hand where the ground that the knock sensors attach to on the plenum is located?

So that ground was tight, but on the passenger side of the engine I have this open female plug, I thought I remembered it being open before I did the gaskets too, but I'm not sure anymore, I couldn't find a male end anywhere. Could this be the cause of my woes?

It's on the same loom as a plug that attaches to the throttle body.

I looked for quite some time and I couldn't see anything down in there. Maybe I'll have to take the TB completely off and look. Is there any way to confirm if that is the knock sensor wire?

Well I'm pretty sure I recall having an open plug when we started, but I'm not positive, it was 2 weeks ago, and I've just been ignoring the CEL due to lack of time

Ok as you look at your engine from front on you see the timing belt cover (has the 3400 on it) if you look on the top edge of it to the left ( towards your intake) that's where your know sensor wire harness plugs in.......if it's plugged in that means while changing your gaskets you probably bumped the wire harness and it's so brittle that it probably cracked the wires and that's what's throwing the codes........long story short to change the harness ($30.00 ish from Toyota) you have to remove the manifold....I did mine a few months ago

Btw your truck is gonna run like crap with a bad knock sensor code, the knock sensor is what tells your computer that your engine may have catastrophic failure and so your computer will deliberately change the timing of your truck. Also when you change the harness change the sensors as well since your gonna have it torn apart anyways.

Logcabins you sir are my hero. I spent so long looking all along the front and back of the engine, but missed up behind the timing belt cover till you mentioned it. It was just unplugged.

Plugged it in, reset my ECU, and now it runs better and the CEL is gone!

Thank you so much for helping me fix my stupidness!
