I'm looking to buy a 40" Led bar but I'm not sure exactly which model to get. I know the combo spot/flood pattern gives you ample throw and a bit of flood but it's really just a 30" spot bar with (2) 5" flood bars on the sides. Why not just get 3 separate light bars then??? But I've been looking into the radial bars as well and it seems like a 40" radial bar with the spot pattern would give you 40" of true SPOT led's but since it's radial, it would spread the beam out a bit creating more of a long distance flood than a true spot or a combo spot/flood bar. I hope I am making sense! I've searched for a thread that will discus the differences but have turned up empty handed. If anyone has any input on this or, better yet, actual experience please share!

    Thanks!

I might be able to help you out a little bit. I have some pics of the output of a 40" straight single row spot bar and a radius 50" single row combo bar. You can definitely see a wider pattern with the radius bar and a good amount of usable light is also cast to the side very quickly with them.

Disclaimer :): Dual row lights will have a different light output. The single row lights with 10W LEDs have a very defined and intense spot pattern whereas the dual row bars with 3W LEDs put out a lot of light "in general" but don't have the same intensity or spot that the single row will. Unfortunately I only brought single row bars that night when i was getting output shots. It was also freezing and about 1:30 in the morning and wasn't really the best spot to test...

one other comment based on your observation...

If you are just getting one light for general purpose i usually recommend getting the combo bar. If someone is going to get multiple lights, i usually recommend a spot pattern for the bar and flood pods or small flood bars for the others so they can be angled out or otherwise aimed to fill in dark spots and get better side lighting. The radius bars definitely help with this though.

Well you're the company I will be ordering lights from. I think soon, when I get some extra money, I'll order a single row 20" combo pattern bar to go on my bumper and then later on I was thinking about a 40" single row radius bar to go up top when I finish my roof rack. The big bar is the one I'm confused on though. I've heard people say single is better than double row and vice versa. What would you recommend? I have 4 100W KC lights right now and I don't even use them because they suck a shitload of power and don't really work that well. It looks like the picture of the radius bar with the combo pattern is much more effective than these things. What do you recommend?

    Thanks!

If you are going with a 20" and 40", I would do the single row in the 20" and the radius 40" dual row up top. Combo pattern for the 20" and either full spot or combo up top, either way will be fine.

Are you going to move the pods? If so, maybe move them to the side of the bumper a bit more and angle them out some as well.

This is very likely the same setup I'm gonna run.

This is my Totron 30" Double Row Cree All Spot (8 degree). (Totron manufactures most of the Rigid knock off lights on the market....it is produced with no label on the light or on the box, allowing everyone else to put their own brand name. They are top quality lights.

It doesn't appear to be what you would think a All Spot would produce? You would think it is a combo. It produces more of a Euro bean pattern. This is exactly the beam pattern I wanted.

I think what you said is exactly what I'm going to do! As for the pods, since they're spot, I'm going to put them in the bumper where the PIAAs are right now. Those PIAA 510's SUCK!!! Then probably get 2 more pods and mount them by the mirrors facing out to the sides. I wish I had a couple hundred bucks so I could get the 20" bar now!

I really like that pattern! Seems really practical.

I have some lights that replace the PIAA 510's pretty nicely, little more expensive than the pods but they are 35W lights using 5W LEDs. They are about 4 1/8" across and 2 5/8" deep.

Few cell phone pics of a single light output just to get an idea...

Interesting. I really like those! How do they compare to the T6 pods?

    Quite a bit brighter

I'll take a pic of the T6 pod in the same setting to show comparison

I like my radius 42 on my truck. I've got a 22" combo on my bumper and have used a 42" straight/combo as well. I'll take my current setup. The radius gives a nice intense fan of light with decent distance and spread

Lots of vendors in here, so I am just going to provide my honest opinion as far as lighting output is concerned. I think that the radius thing has been covered well, but I think as far as which light pattern to get I would go with spot almost all of the time. LEDs do not have a great reputation for throw and even the spot ones provide quite the amount of flood light. It's just how the optics are by nature. If you have some sort of a decent fill with your headlights, I don't really feel that you need combo pattern unless you are looking for more foreground light of course. This is especially true if you mount your lights low. The lower the LED lights are mounted, the more important it is to have them be spot if you are looking for good all around light downrange or you will find that it will all just flood out in front of you.
