I recently upgraded my suspension to Icon extended travel suspension. I didn’t want to limit the suspensions travel with the sway bar so I removed it. I did a bunch of research first and found out that removing the sway bar should be ok with stiffer aftermarket coils. At first it drove like a boat. It felt all over the place and you could feel the body roll. I’ve been driving without the sway bar now for a few days and now I like it. If feels like it drives normal now that I’m used to it. I do take turns slower and my mileage has gone up even thought I added bigger tires when I did the suspension. Please share your opinion on sway bars and you experience with or without them.

No sway bar, but I feel no difference burning rubber around corners or on turns. I could burn rubber on round-a-bouts going 35, and don't feel unsafe at all.

Don't try at home for the faint of heart, chances of loss of control.

I hope I get to be the confident without it. I was very hesitant to take it off and the info was all over the site so I thought I would make a thread so we can make it easier to find. Now that Ive driven with it off I wish I did it when I had the toytec coils and 5100s.

Taking off the sway bar makes it handle like a truck. I'm old so it feels normal. Everyone thinks trucks should handle like cars nowadays.

Haha well said, a lot of people think that way nowadays.

Haha it's more of confidence in my truck and knowing it won't break down. Plus I only have a small 2" spacer on my front struts.

Has anyone measured the flex gained from removing it? Is it that much more?

i gained a noticeable amount of flex and it definitely rides better when hitting bumps hard without a sway bar. i wish i ditched it earlier lol i bet you could even see some improvements stock.

Tested with my truck (SB) vs a local guy (no SB) and I think he had 2-3" more flex.

Its going to depend on the type of suspension. Everyones numbers would be different.

I forgot to mention that going over potholes is completely different. I can wait to wheel this thing fast over some loose terrain now.

in many states swaybars are mandatory for road inspection

they are considered a safety device for the 'moose test' to help
prevent excessive body roll [and flipping]

completely safe to disconnect or remove as long as you
don't drive it like a sport car, drive it like a truck and things will be fine

you can find quick disconnects for them so you have more flex wheeling but can pop them back on in seconds for the drive back

yes I disconnected front and back on my 4runner and it does so much better creeping
over rocks and logs, but was leaning a ton on highway ramps

you get used to it, and just drive with more awareness, and drive safe in the first place, there is no issue,

however.... if you have blown, or garbage shocks or struts, you will seriously need to reconnect the swaybars
to do normal on-road.... or one highway 'hump' at speed could brown your shorts. rear leafs not so bad but
if you have 4xIS and crap shocks... not fun in traffic

I took mine off, like others, for more articulation and I like it better. I don't drive it like a car, I drive it like the gas guzzling truck it is. Just remember if something jumps out in front of you don't swerve, run it over.

I took mine off my Rubicon after I put my 4" lift on. Drove it around for 5 or 6 years like that and never ever had a single issue. I say, take it off

Ok so it obviously helps with off road capability. I am assuming like my jeep it will help smooth out the road ride correct?
