Flowmaster is merely a noise maker, if you want any performance gains get almost anything else. Can't go wrong with magnaflow but pleas don't get flowmaster!

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
Hated my FM 40 two chamber replaced with a 18" MF.

if you wanna run flowmaster, run a flowmaster. I have an Imco, which is a knock off flowmaster, on my 2.7 and it sounds great(for a 4banger) and the truck runs fine. Magnaflow is just a big straight through glasspack muffler, but they have a huge following on taco forums.

As far as install goes, sawsall the old muffler out, position new one, and clamp or weld in preferably weld. If new muffler is shorter you may need to get a section of pipe to make up the difference. Most muffler shops only charge $40-$50 for a simple muffler swap.

    Straight through versus chambered.

Both will decrease low end tq on a stock 3.4

Noise makers is all they are on stock engines...

I have a FM 40 on my 3.4. It's got a deep tone, a lot of drone around 50 mph, doesn't bother me but a lotta people hate that. It's not my favorite but it sounds better than stock. Depends on what you like.

for sound just do some browsing around on the ol' youtube, theres usually lotsa those kinda videos. I don't think just doing a muffler swap is gonna have very significant performance gains no matter what brand you pick.

im on my third exhaust set up and i love it so far. i had the stock exhaust and then i got the JBA catback exhaust (stilll for sale) then i git an aeroturbine and i love the sound and do feel like i get more performance out of it than the JBA. also made one of my codes go away.

here is a video of the JBA. dont have one of the aeroturbine yet

Wrong. A magnaflow will increase low end hp slightly, but decrease high end. A flowmaster will decrease low end slightly, but gain high end.

OP, I have looked at a bunch of different mufflers when I wanted one, went with a flowmaster 40. It sounds great, and really sounds the best out of all of them IMO. It's a real deep v6 tone. Check out my build thread, I have some clips of my truck. Watch them from a computer to get the real sound. And I heard a lot about drone, but once the torque converter locks in O/D, the muffler gets pretty quiet. It's really not that bad
