Removing ball joint advice?

Helping presto remove his ball joint for UCA install... We broke a c clamp already and now have 2 c clamps to get more force. Any ideas? Still not comin out...

 

wd40 that thing, then while it's soaking, go rent a bj remover from parts store

Id say rent the BJ press from autozone. Going to take some force but use a "cheater bar". Find a hollowed out steel bar that would be long enough to give you some extra leverage. My brother and I always use the handle extension attachment to our floor jack.

 

I just use a flywheel puller you can buy at autozone. I have this exact one and I can pull out a bj in 5 minutes or less without wrecking it.

I used a puller too. took me two minutes to get mine out

 

Thanks guys, we ended up tightening a little more, then beating it with a hammer. Agro style.

 

So aside from being violent to remove old bj, to get the new ones in, put the piece that fits into the spindle in the freezer. Before inserting, heat up spindle. Took us a small push by hand and two whacks with a hammer

 

Good to know! I'll be replacing ball joints when i replace my CV's

 

Use the puller like others said, a C-Clamp isn't designed to exert that type of force, they're for clamping things to hold them while you work.

 

Yup, c clamps were not that great.

 

A shop press makes it easy-peasy as well.

 

A shop press or an arbor press will work too.
