Today I read that Chevy Colorado as well as GM's Canyon will feature an innovative child seat safety feature. This should make many parents happy and possibly make these trucks more popular with family guys.

I wish Toyota could do something like this to Tacoma as well.

Here is the video from youtube.

Pretty clever. Although if a family-man wants a family-truck they're probably going to go for the Double-cab anyway, would have the space for when the kid grows up in a few years. Or go for a full-size...

I couldn't imagine even wanting to squeeze a car seat in the back of an access cab. My toddler's car seat fits just fine behind me in the DC, and I have plenty of leg room while driving.

Still I think this would give many parents peace of mind.

I had an access cab Frontier and it was a complete nightmare for whoever was sitting in the passenger with my daughters car seat in the back. Really that does nothing for you considering how the car seat fastens in.

Hi Jimmy, I took the video from an article at Torquenews. Here is the section that explains it.

The same thing that the table thing does in the back of the Tacoma's in the first gen ext cab. I guess they took them out in the 2nd gen.

08 and below had this feature where you fold down either seats so you can have a platform. Perfect for putting a child seat. Not sure why Toyota got rid of it with the 09 and up.

I just don't think of trucks as being a family vehicle. I can't imagine an extended cab being a real people transporter or buying an extended cab thinking of using the back seats as anything other than storage. When I make decisions I don't think of the children. I suppose if I did I might think atrocities such as the Honda Ridgeline and Cheverolet Avalanche are attractive trucks.

So I install car seats at work all the time and had to do a week of training for it. With that said, I think this is worthless...

I'm talking about the back seats, not the passenger seat.
