    Hello guys:
My toyota tacoma 97 has more than 700,000 miles, same engine.
Yesterday the cat converter clogged and after one hour driving I found a muffler place where
    The cat was replaced.
However, it looks like now I have an exhaust leak because I can hear clearly the ticking of my engine. Before my old cat was clogged I wasn't
Listening that even when I was aware my cat wasn't working well. What do you think guys is this happening. I'm worry because the engine is running rough now.

Cats don't clog over night, if it was indeed clogged it would of happened over time not overnight.

There's many reasons they can get clogged such as running lean due to faulty injectors, map sensors, burning oil etc.

Sounds like they didn't fit the cat correctly allowing some exhaust gases to escape through poorly fitted cat.

All vehicles need a fully functioning exhaust system with appropiate backpressure to function correctly.

Take it back to the shop you got the work done and get then to check it out.

If you don't rectify the underlying cause for your cat failure such as running rich it will cause your new one to suffer the same fate as the old one in time.

    Cheers.

I agree, Cats don't clog overnight!

With the 700k miles; the Cat had a lot of time, and saw a lot of exhaust through it.

Thoroughly, go over all the engine controls; to make sure everything is functioning properly.

Of course bad fuel or leaded fuel can ruin a Cat in a hurry. But, I see from your avatar you are from WA, I don't know if you could even get leaded gas out there. I don't know.

700k miles, is great, maybe it was just time, for a little clogging of the exhaust.

Anyway, check the engine controls, check for excessive oil use, which can clog a Cat also, and then and only then replace Cat; and drive on.

A chunk of his motor could have fell in and clogged it over night

    Yes
They don't break overnight but he could have had a piece move inside.

I had a POS Dodge Omni with a broken cat. I had to get under it and whack it with a broom handle sometimes when the core shifted.
