So i just finished the New River trail from I-17 and Table Mesa Rd to Carefree highway. It was a pretty rough trail, but i didn't think it was THIS rough...

    question..
Was this because my shock wasn't installed right (just had icons installed two weeks ago), because i pushed it too hard, or what? How does something like this happen? I have an appointment with the shop that installed them but it is about 30 minutes away.. another question; is this something unsafe to drive on? I'm just lucky i'm home instead of stranded in the desert!

    thanks,
    Stephen

It's a shock. Not having it won't kill you. Were there any remnants of a bolt left? Looks like the nut may have backed off and the bolt came out. Tie it up or remove it and go on about your day.

the bolt wasnt torqued down properly. the collars are now missing that you need to get from icon or a dealer.

probably a little rough. happened to me in moab and i drove it for a year without replacing a shock. wouldn't recommend it but it's safe to drive. just remove it entirely before you do

    Lots...
If you plan to ride it like this, just take out the shock... and remember while driving you dont have a shock...

Certain suspension components have to be re-torqued after a certain number of miles from install, regardless of whether you or a shop did the install. I've heard between 100-500 miles. Hardware for components with bushings and u-bolts are very susceptible to coming loose.

Plus, you'd be surprised at how often stuff like "final tightening of bolts" is missed at shops.

You could go to a local Autozone, Oreilly etc or even the hardware section in Lowes or Home Depot and pick up a new grade 8 bolt and nut that'll work till you can get it in to be fixed.

Okay so i manned up and fixed the damn thing.

Bought a jack, some replacement nuts and bolts, and youtubed my way to success.
Going to get a torque wrench so i can make sure everything is where it needs to be. Locktite is next.

I now have some tools i should have had in the first place and know a little more..

This and the bolt was facing the wrong way bolt head should be facing the tire so if the nut does somehow fall off the bont will have a harder time coming out

This only applies to OEM bolts, by the way. Once you change to bolts with a different thread pitch, the torque specs go out the window. The Icon shocks come packaged with SAE grade 8 (as opposed to metric) bolts and nylon locknuts.

How does that effect the torque specifications?
.. or a better question; how do i obtain torque specs if going SAE grade 8
