That's what I said too, but it became apparent quite quickly that I would need it done. After it was finished, it wasn't near as big a deal as I thought. Sprayed over everything with rubbarized rock guard, you wouldn't know I had chopped it unless you knew what to look for now.

gotcha. how bad is it if i dont chop it?
what do you think the best tire size would be with the 16inch wheel that requires a little trimming but not chopping up my frame?

TRD Supercharger, Toytec 3" Ultimate Lift w/ 285/75/16s and planning on OBA for sometime in the future. Also thinking about the HWMS and a Warn 8000 for it.
I have a S/C and I also have the Toytec 2.5" coilover lift (bilsteins and eibach) with the AAL in back. It was about 1150 when I bought it. The BFG AT 285/75/16 were 1200 (including the spare). The LR UCAs were 375 during a group buy. I kept my original rims. All prices are before tax.

The front coilovers are adjustable, but I will most likely never make time to do that, and with the S/C, a plate bumper from Pelfreybilt, winch, and skids, my front sits about at stock level. I'd love to adjust it up an inch or two but my weekends are already pretty crowded.

Also, while I was in Moab last year, my UCAs (only about 2-3 months old) started squeaking, and they've never stopped since then. It annoys the everloving shit out of me. I've tried getting grease in there, and I've had no luck. My recommendation for UCAs would be to look into something with a grease port. The LR uca bushings are supposed to be self lubricating (the graphite impregnated stuff.. or whatever) but they have a VERY LOUD squeak every time I go over something as minor as the gutter at the end of my driveway.
I hoped the AAL would take into account the fuel tank, driver, and battery being on one side, but the truck still has a wicked bro lean.
Also regarding the UCAs, I may have been ripped off, but with the S/C the through bolt (hinge) is supposed to be a bear to get out, so anticipate a bunch of time or money getting those installed.

Edit: I had the cab mount chop done for 100 by a local fabricator (BAMF), which is required for fitting 285s. The trimming of the wheel well stuff was easy to do with a dremel.

Double Edit: I also have the 100 spidertrax spacers on front (required for the 285s)

Is your truck a TRD or no? I've been told that it's hard to get aftermarket 16s to fit on TRDs because of the size of the brake calipers and that a lot of the time, you will need to shave the caliper or use spacers. So you'll need to check that first of all. As for tire size without chopping, I don't know if you can go much bigger than stock without running into some issues. 265/75/r16s?

The first side is a bit of a learning experience, you need to bend the inner fender to get the bolt out. The second side will go much easier/quicker.

    enough to go over stuff
Here is a shot of my cab mount chop on my 2014. I had a 3 inch toytec with 5100s and 5160 resis in the rear and the dakar leaf pack on 265/70/17. I had that setup for 5 months but I wanted more. Now im on ICONs with Icon UCAs and 285s. Im so much happier with this setup.

After I got the UCAs from a Headstrong group buy, I set up in my driveway on a Saturday morning, pulled the tire off, looked at it for about 20 minutes, took a nap on the driveway next to my truck. Then I woke up and put the tire on and dropped off the truck at an alignment/suspension/tire shop. I was working days and nights at the time, and decided my time was better spent sleeping than busting up my knuckles. :)

I managed to get through the new coilover and AAL installation on my own, though.

    thanks for all the information.
i really dont wanna cut the frame. maybe ill get a lil bit smaller tire for now
i swear there was a guy at work that had a tacoma with a 3 inch lift with 285's and didnt cut the mount. any ideas? i know it was on the stock wheel tho and no wheel spacers or anything beside the lift

if i get aftermarket wheels depending on specs is it possible to not rub?
like backspace and stuff like that?

Mine is a TRD O/R and I have ProComp 16's with no issues at all. I had heard speculation of 16's not fitting on TRD Sports because of the calipers but I think it was a myth. Don't quote me on that though. There is a thread floating around here somewhere talking about that issue. As far as tire size, there are guys running 32's on a stock setup, but I can't tell you if they've had any problems flexing or wheeling with them. I was pretty hesitant about a cab mount chop at first but after having it done no one can tell unless they know what they're looking for.

I had a shop do my UCA's as well. I didn't have all the tools I needed to install them so I said screw it.

I've heard of people doing that and being fine but my 285's on my 3" lift required me to removed the mud flaps, trim some plastic in the wheel wells, trim some plastic of the front bumper that wrapped around into the wheel wells, and a cab mount chop. Doing all of that allowed me to flex fully when off-roading. Before I trimmed all the plastic, in reverse at full left or right my tires would rub extremely bad. You should ask the guy your work with to let you see how his setup looks when the wheel is all the way to the left and right. Just look at the and run your fingers on the inside of the tire and see how close everything sits to the tire. I honestly don't think there is any way of avoiding the cab mount chop to run 33's on a 3" lift

yea he has billies on the max setting and stock uca and lowers
stock wheels with the 285-75-16. and all he did was trim the wheel wells and bumper.
think a 31 will look ok with a 3inch lift?
but im getting new wheels will the offset and backspacing help me not rub?

Is your Tacoma a TRD? Becaue TRD's come stock with 31" wheels. If you're worried about having to do a cab mount chop and ok with minor trimming if need be then I'd go with 32's. I had my stock 16" wheels and 31" tires on for a bit after my lift and it looked a little funny.

I had 33's on my 3" prior to the cab mount chop now that I think about it. I was fine, but as far as off-roading, not an option. I couldn't turn full left or right in reverse. When I drove and tried to park, again, full left and full right would rub really bad. I just bought mine 2 years ago used and still owe on it so I know what you mean. Maybe you can do the lift and see if the tire shop will test fit a 32" to see if it may rub?

yea ill be doing the install at my work and we dont have all kinds of tires around. would back space and offset of the wheel change how much it could rub? if i can get it not to rub that way it will be great but i guess if i have to cut it i will

also with the cmc you cut bout 3 1/2 inches long but how deep? and what did you use to cut it. im talking to my buddy that gonna help me and just wanna give him all the information.

It could but probably very little. I don't think any backspacing would be enough to prevent it from completely rubbing.
