I finally got rid of my 1985 Sony receiver (that I had since I was a teen) and now just use a Big Jambox that is running wirelessly to my computer. Either play my iTunes library or Pandora through it.

I pitched my old combo Panasonic after I put the fairing on the bike.

Kenwood 200w head unit with 4 Polk speakers (coaxial version of the component speakers I have in the Taco).
With a battery charger plugged into one of the power outlets on the fairing, I can run it at a comfortable volume without killing the bike's battery.
At high volume? Ya... the Battery Tender isn't going to keep up. Those speakers will make Iron Maiden enjoyable at 80mph.

Not cheap but these are pretty sweet
    http://www.gosoundcast.com/

They have 3.5 plug ins and a rechargeable battery so you can play for 15+ hours on a charge. Pretty awesome sound as well. You can find youtube vids of them being run thru a carwash while playing. With a UAT you can send a wireless signal 300 feet and feed 2 at the same time.

I have one behind the couch I use for surround sound on the TV but pick it up and take it outside or wherever I want to hear it.

I grew up floating that river. Best tubing anywhere. Still make it out when I visit friends back in CenTex.
