eh its ok, no harm no foul.

I do wonder if there is something similar you can do like the OP to disable the key in ignition beep.

It works on some of the Tacomas before 2012, though it does not work on my '08 RC.
Funny thing it, mine warns about the passenger seat, but I've never even seen the warning light on the driver seat.
Going to have to try it again.

So now that XP is a goner (and my notebook that still runs XP can't run without being plugged into AC), is there an alternative available yet that can be run on a smartphone and communicate via bluetooth with the adapters used for Torque?

Just did this with putty on my windows 7 laptop. and worked like a charm.

just an FYI you could NOT see the commands being entered into the terminal in putty but upon pressing enter you would get the responses back from the BT adaptor.

I figured out a sure fire way to shut off my seat belt alarm, I wear my seat belt. It may actually even save my life, win win in my book.

I don't get the off roading reason either. I have had no issues leaning out the window with my seat belt on, I just pull some slack.

I forward the link because you were looking for a cable that works with a 64 bit machine. The newest software can be found lots of places for free.

These Chinese cables advertise that the software is included, but every time I try to use the included mini disc, it ends up being corrupted. I end up finding the program on the internet and just downloading it.

    So the cable is different?
I thought it was just the software that didn't get along with Win7/8
It's actually a 64 bit issue? If so, I hear that... we've got a box of USB-RS232 convertors at the traffic management center that are worthless on even XP64.

No, the dash light stays lit if you do not put on the belt. Just kills the alarm/chime. This dash light is tied into the air bags. If you do not wear the belt and the seatbelt light is on, the air bag will not go off in the event of a crash. The air bag is designed to SUPLIMENT restraint and the prevention of injury during a crash...hence the abreviation SRS.

Rich: There was never an issue with the software, just the cable drivers. They were designed to work with the Tuff Books that all the Toyota dealers use and they were all 32 bit machines. I've been watching pretty close for the last 3 years and was pretty sure we were gonna see a 64 bit program eventually. Looks like it is finally here.

Like you said, the old XP machines are pretty much done for. It was getting to be a pain using my old XP netbook that wouldn't hold a charge.

I have no issue spending $40 bucks for the same diagnostic tools that the dealers use.

I've been monitoring this thread since I created it. I have 2 comments

This thread is about the proper way to disable the seatbelt chime. It's not about seatbelt extenders or sensor removal. They work but probably have unforeseen consequences, such as altering airbag deployment characteristics (possibly)
Please use other established threads for non software methods

2nd. Disabling seatbelt alarms does not mean not wearing the seatbelt. So if your only contribution is to say just wear your seatbelt, keep it to yourself. It's not original, Nd it's not what this thread is about.

I have a few questions, hopefully poppeye or someone else can answer them.

I am going to disable the driver's seat belt chime per the instructions as I prefer starting the truck and buckling up before I put the truck into drive.

Using the same method (obviously different memory locations) can I:

    • disable the passenger seatbelt warning chime?
    • disable the door open with key in the ignition chime? (or at least lower the volume...)
    Thanks!

For the key-in alarm, just split the clamshell behind the wheel and unplug the 2-wire connector on the bottom of the lock cylinder.
    5 minute job.
