It's a luxury thing. But with how much they cost they could never pay off. Heck they would hardly pay off if they were 100 bucks! The loss of style isn't even worth it

    What's the answer?

    Remove the plate!

You can't, gas engines have to run at a certian A/F mixture controlled by the EFI and throttle plate.
Diesel doesn't have a throttle plate and is only adjusted by the EFI.

I'm impressed by your ingenuity, but why not just buy a Civic or something for your daily driver? I paid $1500 for a Honda Civic that got 40mpg all day every day for 4 years and 70k. Then we traded it for $3500 towards the girlfriend's Honda Fit (which gets between 37-39mpg)

He got a good deal for the truck and since the mods don't cost him any utility, I guess it doesn't make sense to buy a car?

I guess that makes sense, depending on on how much he's driving. We felt that it wouldn't take long to save the $ we paid for the car in gas, because I was either driving that 40MPG Civic or my 18MPG Jeep (later a Nissan Hardbody that got similar mileage), and I was averaging 20K a year at that point. I parked the Jeep and drove the Civic unless it was snowing.

Of course, he might just like the challenge, haha

The challenge is a big part! And yes they will pay for themselves very quickly if you drive a lot. Then the question is whether or not you still need your truck/jeep... and some of us dont want to answer that question!

Shrug. I needed the 4x4 because I was driving to a job that required me to show up, no matter what the weather was doing.

Oh, and yeah the debate rages on, but worthywads is right.

And Mikeyjd is nuts, but I like it! I'm thinking removable dam on the front stretching to the ground now. (See the chevy pics in this thread)

I use my truck for work and haul with a trailer regularly now. I've been busy so I haven't updated my logs, but the info is ready to upload. I haven't gotten less than 28.4 mpg on a tank while hauling a trailer around 70% of the time. I'm happy with the results of the modifications. It also leads to allot of interesting conversations.

That is the strongest reason for me to own a truck. We had a horrible rainstorm last week and I tell you what, driving a lifted truck (with brand new highway tires :D) sure does pay off. Thanks to 1-2 of us driving trucks, we were able to continue our tradition of going out for lunch on Fridays. That would have been rough in the cars. One girl's road got flooded and couldn't come to work. +1 for trucks.

:amen: Driving me PreRunner til that time comes!

28 MPG towing. That is great. I am managing 24/tank right now. Could possibly get it into 25 or 26 if I could stop doing so much city driving.

New to this forum, but not new to getting max mpg's. Just bought this '08. Just ordered an AFE DRY filter after reading through the first 8 pages of this thread along with changing plugs and fluids. Currently getting 15mpg FREEWAY! I know it's because of the wheels, but i'm asking for some recommendations on some new tires for maximum mpg's without sacrificing any clearance/grip. I mainly use my truck for OHV camping and am looking forward to some snow here in the Sierra's this year. Hopefully...
I'd like to keep the wheels if possible, or maybe go with the 17" if I haaavvvve to but like I said, I don't want to sacrifice any clearance.

Michelin LTX MS2s are great for highway, rain, and snow. Offroading probably not, I think Cooper Discoverer at3s may be a good choice but others will need to chime in.

You must drive pretty well to get 20 MPG city with 285s?
