I've done a mod or two
These trucks are not particularly forgiving to leadfooted folks, even non severe cases of leadfootedness can be dramatic to MPG. Also I have a 1st gen four-banger that only gets like 16 MPG on a good day wit summer blend fuel.

It makes me laugh when I look at fuelly.com

The Tacoma has been getting the same gas mileage since the old 3.0L from the late 80's 4runner/Tacoma.

and yet people still think they should be getting Prius type MPG...

I bang my head on everyone of these threads because I have no idea how anyone can invest so much money into something and do so little research.

Lots of vehicles don't seem to get what the window sticker states. I started driving a '14 Ram "mini-van" for work, with a 18 city/26 hwy rating. I drive it "like an old lady", but strictly city/local driving, mostly with the a/c on. Cant seem to avg any better than 15.5 mpg's. Based on this info, a V6 4x4 Taco doing any better than 13-14 mpg's is not too bad...:)

I set my cruise at the speed limit (110 KM/h) and got 22MPG with mystock V6 Double Cab. I was pretty happy with that.

Window stickers are total BS and the laws are attempting to reform the shady practice the manufacturers use to rope a dope customers.

For years everyone should of known the stickers are wrong. In some cases some manufacturers were forced to pay the customers back the difference because they defrauded them so badly.

This truck has been out for a decade with the same exact packages so at this point there is no excuse for anyone to say anything about poor MPG and anyone doing so either never did any research or their truck has mechanical issues. People knew in 2004 what kind of real work mileage these trucks had and provided it to others for reference.

I dont understand why some of you get such bad gas mileage. I pull roughly 3500 lbs, 300 miles per week and still get 14-15 mpg which is what some of you are getting empty. Unloaded i get 19+ all day. Long trips 22-23 mpg. This is with a 4x4 double cab, auto trans and heavier 10 ply tires and in the heart of appalachians which is up and down. Im hardly in any stop and go traffic tho. All hand calculated and use the same pump every day

Hey everyone, sorry for the delay, I'm on vacation. It has 70,000 miles on in and I'm heavy on the pedal, but I set it on cruise at 70 and still got 16mpg. DaBigDogg, your post made me laugh as well, thank you! When I get home, I'm going to get it serviced and try again. I also have started skipping 3rd gear. Thank you to everyone that has responded!

"Window sticker Fuel mileage" comes from just the engine/transmission sitting on a dyno and they put loads on it.They can figure the fuel usage with computers and know what it's gonna get. They however can't predict every driver/terrain/attitude/etc into these factors and go with the center most figure....I guess.

He's right. Only valid excuse to complaining about MPG is if a mechanical issue is causing it.

If you were to stupied to do research on a huge investment like a 30k truck that's your own fault. The people complaining should man up, accept their bad decision, and stop complaining about normal MPG

    or

    buy a Prius. :D

I get posted mileage figures for the automatics with my 6spd burning 87 with ethanol. I tried 91 for several tanks full and it made zero difference in mileage or power. There is nothing wrong with the 6 speed other than the driver. True that they do get slightly better mileage only because it shifts it's self when the engine management tells it to and the 6 spd is totally up to the driver as to how and when.

I agree to an extent with that, although the top gear ratio of the 6 speed sucks for the highway. Anything over 60 MPH with mine and the mileage goes to poop.

I did it again. Got tired of paying truck payments and gas and traded in for a 2015 Honda Accord Sport since I enjoyed my 2013 Sport so much.
Don't know if it's been mentioned yet but if you're going 75mph and have a 20mph headwind, you're going the equivalent of 95mph and your fuel economy will adjust itself downward accordingly.

I have a 6 spd manual DC running 33" KM2's and I get an average of 14.9 mpg. Sounds like your mpg are correct. My 14.9 mpg is the best my truck can get. I sometimes get 13 mpg depending on what type of driving.

To everyone helping, thank you. To the assholes that have nothing better to do but trash people with their thumbs (or keyboards,) I'm glad I took minutes from your life. I did my research, and I'm not complaining. I'm making sure there isn't anything wrong b/c, as you can see in some posts, others are getting better mpg's. I was hoping to get closer to 18 hwy. If I can fix it, tough shit, I still love my Taco.

Doesn't seem to make much difference with mine it starts to fall apart above 70 but I can also drive all day in 6th towing my camper and that's one of the reasons I bought the 6 spd. By the way you really want sucky mileage try towing at 70 it latterly cuts the mileage in half if I slow down I can get around 13-14 with the camper yeah I know 50-55 really sucks.
