After 3300 miles, I decided to sell my Ribbon Blue DC Sport. Hate to do it, gonna hurt the bank, love everything but the seats, but I'll be a hobbling cripple if I drive it much longer. Test drove a Tundra, Silverado, Sierra and Ram and all the seats are a thousand times more ergonomic. And adjustable.

I am sure 100 people will post how they love their seats, but after asking several people I know who've own them, they always say the seats were always uncomfortable, so unless you have a post about how to help the problem please keep your useless posts to yourself.

Toyota has a known issue and a friend who works for Toyota said the designers know about it, but because they own the midsized truck market, R&D not going to spend money offering options for adjustable seats or options. Toyota just lost a lifetime Toyota customer.. atleast until they fix the one major flaw in their otherwise greatest truck.

You should be able to swap the seats for something you like better. I know someone swapped Tacoma seats for Scion seats and loved it. You can also get Katzkins or something. Extra padding, etc.

That's an interesting idea. I hadn't thought of compatibility with Scion. Any idea which scion model? Or seat part number? I'll research it.

I spoke with a local Katskins installer who didn't inspire much hope for success. The covers offer some extra padding, but would not affect the angle or lumbar much. Till then, I am sitting on 3 towels and a granny pad just to keep from exacerbating the issues...

Did you test drive the truck before you financed 30k? Do you still like the color you picked?

sounds like you need to rip the seat out and put a lazy-boy recliner in there.

Seriously considered it for a minute when I was desperate and sore. I drove the Ram, Chevy and GMC last weekend. All had adjustable seat options and were as comfortable as a recliner. Other than the seat, I like the Tacoma better in almost every other way. Anyone notice the headrests angle is a bit jacked forward? I turned both of mine around. Girlfriend cant have a ponytail without sitting head down.

Aside from the bad seat ergonomics, the only thing I could want is the 4.7L V8 they used to have in the 03-09 4R's. And the old 4R seats....

^^^^this. And the seats sit way too low in relation to the floor. I LOVE my truck, and LOVED my 1st Gen before that. But it's always caused back pain on long trips for me. Short trips and even a couple of hours in it is fine. Anything more than that gets really annoying though.

My clazzios helped a little bit, but that won't fix how close the seats sit to the floor. I'll be keeping an eye out on here for your solution, OP. I'm definitely not getting rid of my Taco, so I'm doing whatever I can to make them more comfy.

Edit: Anyone have pics of Recaros in a Taco? Info on pricing?

Buy some clazzio leather seat covers. They use some memory foam to help with comfort.

Here is what I found so far

There are a ton of forums posts about 1st gen, but i see nothing about 2nd gen.
Don't know if mounting holes on 2nd gen have been relocated or people are just generally more happy with 2nd gen seats. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-tacomas/162158-scion-xb-seat-swap-video.html

I see complain that seats are too low, which most people attribute their back pain and being uncomfortable to. Perhaps some 1-2" spacers between the seat rails and the floor would help?

Definitely did not miss anything. My seats still suck. As far as I can tell no one seems to have any solutions - other than - sell the truck and Im not really sure Im ready to take a $3000/$4000 dump

Theres gotta be some kinda aftermarket company that makes a 4 or (ideally) 8 way power seat for our trucks... thats all this would take. well, that and more range in the telescoping wheel.

The seats in my 2nd gen makes my old 99 seats seem like a torture device.

But that being said, I think the seats in the Tacoma's could use some improvement. Probably my biggest gripe, that and the 4cyl needs about 30 more hp. Hopefully they'll remedy these things in the next gen.

Taco seat have not really changed since 05. I love my TRD seats and they are very comfortable. I don't get it unless your very large or tall.
