Hey! I've owned my '98 Tacoma for about 2 1/2 years now. I've done some off roading and all is good. I've been wanting to do some mods (exhaust, engine etc) but I'd like some feedback from others. I have a 2.7L 4 cyl 5 speed manual transmission. I just got the head gasket and cylinders replaced and have also done some minor work (u-joints, extension of the driveshaft etc). I now have to replace the cat so I was thinking of doing the exhaust next. Any ideas... please send them my way!

    Thanks!

    getting there....
get a high flow cat for your truck, and couple that up with a dynomax super turbo muffler.....should see some decent gains there.....also, get some doug thorley headers if you want.

Flowmasters creat more of a restriction than the OEM muffler. They are a baffled muffler, and smaller than the stock one...

The 2.7 has the same cats as the V6....they flow very well for that engine. :)

LCEngineering.com makes a very high quality header for the 3rz and is an easy bolt-on. Upgrades galore on their website. they are not the cheapest, but one of the best. Also, Paradiseracing.com for quality power upgrades.
Aftermarket cat-backs are aplenty, stick with 2.5"dia. or less on the 4cyl. to keep torque up.

Ok so what is the best high flow muffler, Magnaflow, borla, ect...

From what i am hearing flowmaster only gives a better sound. I don't want anything that will drown or be obnoxious. But i want a nice little growl. Am I better off leaving the exhaust stock?

I have a jardine on mine, nothing exciting just alittle deeper( and cheaper). Borla would be my #1 choice. I think sticking to a "turbo" muffler is key to a mellow but throaty exhaust.
