me a friend were tossing around that idea, instead of normal water intercooler, using an A/C coil and compressor. anyone ever try it and can the system keep up enough to cool enough to make a difference?

just an out of the box idea....

Since this is thinking outside of the box, do any hybrids have a/c where the compressor is NOT belt-driven ie electric ? If so, might be a possible solution. Don't know if there's room to mount a second belt-driven compressor.

1 loop? Like you use evaporator to cool the intercooler? Or 2 loops with a blower?

    this would be difficult regardless

LOL! i guess we think a little alike! we thought about a similar setup, we had a couple of window unit A/C's like for your house laying around too and thought about doing something like that, but problem is, you ABSOLUTELY have to have a pure sine inverter to run the compressor or it will burn up in no time and a true pure sine inverter that could take the demand on a daily basis would run somewhere around $2000! so we ax'd that idea! at first we thought it was the answer to our prayers, we have all the parts, no draw on the motor turning extra compressor, etc, then the DOH! moment lol

i like the way you think though, if ya have some more ideas toss 'em over

ya, that does work, my friend who builds track cars uses the ice method, they run the lines through an ice bath, works well for track cars and stuff, but on everyday driver not feasible. (wish it was cause it works!)

    CO2 fogers work

the air is too hot for an A/C to keep up. would have to use to big of a system.

ya use evaporator to cool the intercooler, and ya i know it would be a biatch to do, but i want to put a turbo on this truck and i am in no hurry because i am just collecting parts as they come available as hand me downs, etc. plus my friend i am talking about owns a shop and builds track cars and he actually thought of it first, just did not know if it has been done and that got my interest peeked. since i am in no hurry, got full shop of tools and equipment to play with, figured if its possible and i can get the parts together why not try it. i was hoping someone else had done it before and could give thumbs up or thumbs down on final result, because you are defiantly right it would be alot of work to find out it don't work, lol.

that was a major part of my question and one of biggest concerns, guess you answered that question. so to try or not try... verdict seems no :(

welp, on to the next crazy idea anyone got a good one? :)

as far as CO2 how long does a bottle last though?

Have you considered liquid nitrogen and ball bearings?

Could used a system kinda like air craft a/c that uses rapid expansion to cool air. Pretty much a turbo that compresses air and then allowed to rapidly expand in a camber. Work good on planes but probably hard on a car.

Old dragster trick ice chest for intake air you'll never be able to gain power while you are taking it away with cooling systems.

This works with the AC system to cool the air charge without adding a second compressor and is very effective.

first law of thermodynamics said no :p

since someone mentioned the prius AC being electric driven, its just because the motor on the prius doesn't always run and its a comfort thing.

Yes and it's a part time system so before you blast off the A/C has to cool the system then re cool it afterwards in the mean time you sweat while the A/C is making things cold. Think about how long it takes for the A/C to cool a hot truck after you get in it.
