I feel like a real idiot asking this but can someone telll me where I can find the fill and drain plug for the front diff oil? I still cannot locate it even after watching the videos in this forum. Someone mentioned it is located under the rear skid plate? Where is that located? Anyone have pics of the location of the rear skid plate/Front differential?

It's on the driver's side of the diff. The fill plug has a white sticker on it & the drain is plain, you have to remove oem skid to access then

Drain and filler is on the driver side, facing the tire per say.
Follow ur cv axle inwards and fill and drain shoul be around 2/3 oclock

You've not yet removed the two factory splash pans I'm guessing.

The underside of your engine is (lightly) protected by two thin pieces of steel painted black and held on by four 12mm bolts each. Take those off.

Now you can see your CV axles - both of them. And you can see where they end in the differential - that big cast iron clock shaped thing.

That has two giaganto hex allen-wrench holes in it on the driver side - one's 10mm and one's 12mm. The upper one is the fill hole. The lower one is the drain hole.

I took off the skid plate and I don"t see the CV axel on either side of the wheel. I dont think my 2005 has CV axels because I don"t see anything connected to the center rear of the front tires leading to a front differentail. I"ve been all under that vehicle and I can"t located a front differential. The photos on this forum don't match my 2 wheel drive 2005 Tacoma. Anyone out there have a 2005 Tacoma that can send me photos of the front diff? Also, is the transfer case mounted to the aft end of the transmission? if so, the one on my vehicle looks nothing like the ones in the photos on this forum.

I found my answer in another thread. My 2005 2W drive doesn"t have a front diff or transfer case.

I don't think this guy is serious, I smell a troll, I know if I had a 4x4 I would have tried to engage it at least once. OP if I am wrong I apologize profusely.

Regardless, let's be glad he didn't drain the transfer case.

Oh c'mon now. Not everyone out there is a gear head like us. Trust me, I get some funny looks from people I work with when I start talking cars with them.

If troll, well played but I've seen better if not... Way to represent an enthusiast forum respondents.

I've had a few moments where I've sat back and thought "how did I not know that?" I have a fellow pertolhead former roommate (diesel mech by trade) who has a old VW Caddy we were working on (only dives VW or Audi). His vision was lowered, go wide and such. I was thinking "go independent rear suspension and lose the leaf springs." and he kept giving me funny looks. I look under the rear and don't see a rear diff and proceed to tell him that and he says "uh yeah, it's a truck. It's front wheel drive" At this point we both give each other funny looks. I thought it was rear wheel drive and he though almost all trucks were front wheel drive. So, VW Caddy or Rabbit pickup is front wheel drive. Most all other trucks are rear wheel drive. We both learned something new that day.

All good fun. You have to know something is wrong when the title is for front diff and he's looking for a rear skid plate.
