Makes me glad I don't rent a modem from Comcast.

Is your modem a wifi enabled modem?

Yes, but I purchased it from Amazon to avoid the $7 per month rental fee.

My understanding of the program was that you had to use a rented Comcast modem to have the home hotspot feature. I don't think Comcast can activate a personally owned modem, right?

I'd check. I purchased my modem too and it was on through my account. The modem has to be authorized to be used with comcast which means they can push out firmware updates and enable some features. I read the article, opened up my wifi settings and noticed the xfinitywifi with a strong signal. I logged into my account and went through the steps and sure as shit, it was enabled.

Yet another reason to dislike comcast *sigh*. I'll have to check that out, thanks for the tip.

Did you receive an email from Comcast saying they were going to enable your home wifi hotspot?

Saw this all on the news awhile ago. And Comcast of course made no notification to it's customers of this.
