    I've blown up 4 8.4's :anonymous:

but I have no pictures or proof so this comment really holds no weight.

3 in my 09 reg cab(abuse of an 18 year old)
and one in my 07 access cab 6-speed(got tee boned blew 2 months later)

not talking shit but neither is bullet proof in my opinion even if my 8.0 has treated me well for the last 70k

You weren't.......... say activating a ARB RD129 while doing 40mph were you? LOL

Jeebus, if there was ever a single post to make me feel better about my Sport purchase, it's this one right here.

You could also throw a detroit locker in an 8.4 which is bullet proof.

I blew the spiders in my 07.
The reg cab, I don't know what was happening there. All I know is three separate occasions the rear end started to growl loudly under engine breaking, I brought it to a Toyota dealer they said they found large chunks on the drain plug and replaced the third member. Never got a technical explanation.

The reg cab was off-road virtually every day and I drove it as hard as I could in every scenario often turning on the auto lsd mid burn out. I drifted it hard and often, jumps were common and i generally abused it. It also had no major modifications to it just a crappy spacer lift and near stock size tires

The thing EVERYONE has to realize about the 8.0 elocker being "weaker" than the 8.4's is that 90% of the time, the 8.0's that get destroyed are on built rigs running bigger tires and getting beaten on with the locker engaged.... this means MORE STRESS... when you are pushing the truck up a ledge via one rear tire only when one is in the air and the fronts are on loose shit.

the TRD OR's get wheeled to harder places simply because they can make it there unlike the 8.4's open diff, and thus see more stresses. If one was to wheel in 4low with the 8.0 not in locked it would fail at the same spot as the 8.4

If you need a comment like that to make you feel better about your purchase then you made the wrong purchase to begin with

If I had my way to begin with, I would have purchased an Off Road. However, it was a family vehicle purchase with a little one on the way, so I needed the the DCLB. I've been nothing but happy with it ever since and this only makes me more so.

The reason why I think there no problems with the Sport rear diff is cause you dont have people who slam the rear locker on under pressure not cause its weak as shit like poeple describe. My last one was a Sport and I had a clunck in the rear diff and had parts replaced under warranty and not one problem with my current offroad yet :D

the people who snap the 8s are the ones who dont know how to properly use it and engaged it under pressure but thats my opinion

I never did get ahold of them I just switched the leaf packs around and the lean went away. The onw with more arch went on the passenger side and the one with less went on the driver side

That could very well be true. It'll still give me a warm, fuzzy feeling when I get the ARB lockers installed in my Sport.

    LOL

So your theory is that no one with ARB RD129's in Sport models offroads them and has larger tires

    please put the pipe down

The guy I know who blew his 8.0 up twice and swapped it out for a 8.4 w/RD129 has never blow up the ARB since. He also has more experience then any of the web wheelers I know on here.... same guy routinely makes international trips with his Tacoma and wheels pretty much non-stop. Same 'inexperienced' guy was the only person to find me an engine when mine blew because all his buddys are dropping larger engines in their Tacomas. But yea.... he must not know how to push a button

Amazed even with proof you guys won't admit the 8.0 is weaker.

    my point exactly.

Yes technically the 8.4 is a stronger diff... and if i paired it with an ARB i would expect it to be stronger.

But in stock form... comparing a stock 8.4 to a stock 8.0 they are pretty much the same strength.... yet the 8.0 will see more stresses due to the situatoins the locker can get you into.

I love my TRD OR never had an issue with the locker and it paired with a trac has made all my off roading very easy, where with a sport it would be very nasty.

Yes, I know, I had a 6 ft. bed on my Xtra Cab Tacoma. It would be logical to say the 5 ft. bed is the oddball or mutant. HOWEVER, not for the double cabs... that is why a 6 ft. is known as a "Long Bed" on the double cabs.
