Anybody have any success with having thier stock buckets rebuilt? I've heard that some trim levels have better seats than others, but I'm happy with the '09 base level truck I've got - except the seat bottoms are brutal after about 200 miles. I've got an appointment Wednesday with a seat company that has built a couple of motorcycle seats for me in the past. Anybody have any experience or recommendations for improving the Tacoma seats?

Have you tried adding a seat cushion? Something like this.

Tried the seat cushion idea. Better, but not enough. I considered changing to seats from a higher trim level Tacoma, but the seat guy tells me that all Tacoma seats have the same framework (springs, etc.).

His idea so far is to take out the stock padding, lay down some carpet across the springs (keep the foam from settling back down into the springs), then using new foam to sculpt a seat. He then suggests adding a couple of 1" spacers to the rear attachment bolts to tilt the seat forward a bit. Actually sounds logical. He's a dedicated Toyota guy so that gives me a little added confidence.

It's a shame though. The seats in my 1989 Isuzu trooper are still all-day comfortable. I haven't had anything this bad since my wife's S-10 in '96. It was so bad, we kept it less than a year.

I guess I'll post the results after I get it back. I've got a 1000 mile trip to make.

Right with ya. My TRD Sport is very uncomfortable. Im shifting in the seat the whole time I'm in it and can't ever get really comfortable. I'm just used to my F150. I can ride for days in that. Seriously thought about buying F150 seats and swapping.

TRD seats are great IMO. Drove 1106 miles in one day on vacation and never felt tired. The truck is just a nice place to be.

Nice topic , not sure about the seats being the problem . I'am thinking its more like people's body type , and what kind of shape they are in that determines there comfort level . No doubt my trd sport seats are hard , but let's say they are just firm. Sounds better . Bottom line the OP is right they could be a bit softer , my legs kill me after one plus hour of driving also . Thanks for reading my post !

If you can find the foam I have a set of TRD sport factory covers I'll sell dirt cheap.

Not sure how much you are looking to spend but a set of cushioned seat covers could solve your issues. I hated the stock seats when I first got my 09 but I put a set of clazzio seat covers on and it completely changed the seat. They have I think about a 1/2 inch of foam and change the position so that the headrest isn't annoying and the back support is much better. Plus they are perforated so they aren't hot to sit on.

    SR5...

I think some of the issue is the 45 degree angle you sit at. A good seat would allow a more natural setting. Think of a Anti-Gravity chair. Your "bottom" should not be 45 degrees and should be leaned back a little. I'm not talking about the kids that drive with the BACK leaned back so far, they cannot see over the hood. The FRONT bottom of the seat needs to be raised a little up front and some side bolstering.

Maybe I could raise the front of my seat about 3/4 -1.5 inches for a more natural seat.

Short drives are fine, but my Miata has better seats for long drives... and thats not a compliment.

I've heard the SR5 seats are not as comfortable. I really like the TRD seats and they are probably some of the most comfortable seats I've had in a truck. You might be able to pick up a set at a salvage yard for a decent price. I think you would be happy.
