AR-15 BS Thread

I don't know how you would or could buy them. I haven't found any places here that sell new 30 rnd magazines and also haven't found any place online that will sell and ship them here either (MA). As mentioned above, if I only owned the socom, then I'd consider it but since I own a 5.56 also, I'd just stick to pre-ban mags.

That is similar to the 10/22 mag holder that holds more mags. Back in the day I got to looking at my 10/22 magazines. Ruger purposely rounded the bottom of the mags so the contour would match the stock. I got to looking and told myself there is no reason it can't just be flat, then epoxy two together so at least you have (20) rounds on ya even if you have to flip it. Made for a very compact 20 rounds in hand. Take a rough piece of sandpaper on a flat surface and flatten the bottoms of two 10/22 mags then epoxy them together. I did (4) like this over 30 years ago and to this day they still can be taken apart and cleaned and both 20 rounders still work just fine.

I know this is an AR forum but I bet many of you have a 10/22 in the closet/safe. Just thought I would share a cool mod to do with your factory 10/22 mags.......

 

Hey do any of my California brethren know that if you build an AR pistol does the bullet button rule still apply ?? Or can you run a normal mag release

Yes bullet button required. detachable magazine in front of grip violates 12276.1

 

Yea I was curious cuz I'm looking into this pistol build... And it seems like the SB15 is pretty bad ass too and comfy you know wrapping it around your arm and all ; )) but we will see

I have an optic for the AR. I hand carry my optic when I fly. It's a TNVC PVS12 Aquila 4x Night Vision scope.

I've been thinking about building one but I want a mid-length gas system. Where are you guys getting your front block pinned? Or I guess, tell me how you rigged your dissipator. I don't want a rifle length gas system on a 16" gun.

 

I have been looking at a 10.5" upper that has a gas port of .093. I have since been told that a port of .071 is optimal for reliable function.

Since this is my first attempt at a pistol build, I'd like it to properly function once I'm through since these parts aren't cheap! I'd appreciate input on gas ports so that I can build a reliable gun. THX

 

I shaved down the fsb to a low profile gas block. The front sight is an Armalite clamp on fsb. It's still a carbine length gas system.

Prolly have to go to arfcom to get that detailed. I think that stuff is way overblown, and you can easily compensate for gas ports with buffers & springs. Just buy from a reputable retailer and it should be just fine.
