I bought this truck tonight. I have been looking everywhere and it seems when I find a deal, it's gone before I get there. This one kind of fell in my lap, literally. These trucks have a huge following no doubt, I just didn't realize how big.

I have an appointment to have the timing belt, pulleys and water pump replaced and the oil changed first thing tomorrow. It is missing the little piece of trim under the drivers side headlamp, where is the best place to get that.

What else do I need to have done, the lady had only Toyota service it and do regular maintenance and she said the last time she had the oil changed, they told her she needed to do the 100,000 mile service, exactly what does that consist of? I haven't went thru all the receipts from the dealer to see what has and hasn't been done. It doesn't appear to have had plugs or wires either. It runs like a top, drives perfect and is pretty clean, a couple of small dings, but no oxidation any where I could find.

    Thanks Darryle

What does the frame look like?
Check for rust, it's the biggest problem on these.

rockauto.com is a great resource for parts.

What you're missing is listed as a "bumper filler" or "headlight filler"

No rust anywhere, that and oil leaks were what I found on most I looked at, when I saw the undercarriage, I knew I was buying it.

Thanks for the links and trim info!

That truck looks new underneath! That looks better than new Tacomas on the lot around here.

First thing I would do is sign into the Toyota owners website. Enter the VIN and check to see what service the dealer(s) have performed.

You may get lucky and the timing belt was already changed. If the dealer did it, usually there is a decal on the timing belt shroud saying the miles at the time of the timing belt change.

    Nice truck.

Well, the lady I bought it from finally got her new car delivered today. She called me and asked me to stop by when I could. It was worth the trip, she had this to give me, all the original paperwork, every single piece of service paperwork she had from the free oil change and the 2 free tanks of gas, window sticker, a new original remote, 2 new keys and a full set of new original floor mats.

This thing is awesome. I got the water pump, timing belt, pulleys, thermostat coolant flush and change and had all the other pertinent fluids changed. I went with my favorite synthetic oil, Mobil 1 and she purrs like a kitten.

I ordered the trim piece for underneath the drivers side headlight from Rock Auto and wife wants to take it down for a full detail tomorrow.

My first Toyota was a 1980 4x4 2.0 liter with a 5spd,thing was indestructible, I was 16 and tried like hell to do it every weekend. I traded it for a 1986 Turbo SR5 extended cab 4x4, it lasted all of 13 months before the engine grenaded and Southwest Toyota bought it back from me. It has been a long 27yrs getting back in one. This will probably be the last truck I ever buy, maybe not, wife says the new Tundra is sexy.

Thanks again for all the kind words and information.

Ain't that cool! That kind of history is what we all wish for in buying used. Very nice.
