I'm stepping into the market of archery myself. I am learning as I go, coming from rifle. I know a little bit, and am looking at trying to find a good, single bow that I will learn with, and then transition into hunting with. I want to have a single bow so that I don't have a practice bow, then a hunting bow. Seems to be the best way to go according to my brother (Who has been a bow hunter for some 20 years) Any suggestions on something in the $300-$400 range?

Just picked up a Mathews Reezen 6.5 equipped with QAD HDX rest. I need to get a stabilizer and sight for it still as I don't like the current one on it.

Anybody have any experience with IQ Retina Lock bowsight?

There are some package deals around 400, but usually the add-ons are lower quality, I ordered the bare bow and then added sight, drop down arrow rest and so on and ended up at around 650 including 6 arrows and new trigger.

I would go to an archery shop and shoot as many as possible and pick the one that feels good to you, I shot bows twice the price and it didn't feel right so I ended up with the quest rogue.

    Too gimmicky.

I'm a spot Hogg guy but I recently tried a Montana black gold sight. A slider. It's sick. I've never shot long range so well

I have read a lot of good things about the Spot Hogg. I am just starting to get into archery myself, why are they so pricey?

Beware, archery is extremely addicting! It never stops LOL. I’vebeen addicted for well over 20 years.
Spot Hogg is pricey but every sight I’ve had is solid! For me it’s worth theprice.

Spot Hogg is one of the top of the line sights. All I shot for years but switched over to HHA a few years back. After shooting open tournaments with single pin and lens it was hard to switch back to multiple pins. I also hunt with a hinge release, long front stab and back bar

Spot Hogg is a great sight. The gang adjust is the best. You just turn a Allen. No lock. Just turn it where you need it and it stays. They also have a sight wire running down the middle of your sight pins. That wire helps on the oddball range shots. Like 53 yards. You have to put the target somewhere in between the 50 and the60 pin. The wire helps you keep the left/right errors to a minimum. The pins on a spot Hogg are bright if you pony up the money for their wraps. Wraps are many feet of light gathering fiber optics wrapped around the sight and concentrated it at your pins. They let you choose you pin diameter. Most average eyes us 0.19" pins. You can make your far pins 0.10" for more pinpoint accuracy. But the pin gets dimmer.

I switched to a Montana black gold custom sight. Pretty much the same as spot Hogg but the machining and final fit/finish is not as perfect. So they can afford to sell it for less money. My new sight is also lighter.

Like I said I now have a 3 pin slider sight. I can turn a knob a dial my last pin to exactly 53 yards. No more splitting pins for the oddball ranges. I ordered my slider pin at that 0.10" size.

They make great sights now. Most companies have a few slider sights in the lineup.

I'm just curious, are people who hunt with crossbows treated as heretics here?

My son likes bows but he's only 4, I'm thinking of enrolling him in some classes and maybe buying him his own bow, since daddy like to go to the shooting range on the weekends and can't really let him shoot my mosin yet

Gotcha, I would really like to get the spott hogg, but they are so expensive in addition to having to buy a release, quiver, and case still. I am trying to stay around $100 for sight, any suggestions?
