I have some crusted up antifreeze on the left side aft portion of engine...this picture is taken from the left side of truck and dipstick is just below my phone. What is this? I think it is the thermostat housing? tochange? IMG-20140729-00899_zps420950e3_61927c65f99ee2ac06a64ecb03fac87f28511e72.jpg

Could be, and if it is, the picture doesn't show a hose clamp. Perhaps you're missing a hose clamp at that location? Not even sure if there was one originally...

I went back out and looked again after a little more studying and I don't think its my thermostat housing...my thermostat housing should be metal and have the large hose coming out of radiator going to the thermostat housing...this is black plastic and is diamond in shape and has two nuts and a smaller diameter black hose could it be the water inlet housing? I also checked for a hose clamp and didn't feel one nor did I find one when I slid my fingers as far as I could back toward firewall.

But isn't our coolant pink? I agree, should have a hose clamp there. Put one on and check your coolant levels.

Blacktaco: I would but it is rainin buckets outside right now and will be for a while.

357sig: That sounds like it, but I can't find any part numbers or a diagram for it? Does this whole contraption get replaced? Is there a gasket in there to replace? Take the nuts off and see? Hose clamp around the hose? What do I need to do?

I tried looking for it on my truck, can't seem to find it. Is it under the headers? Does the tube run back into the fire wall? of yes, it sounds like the heater hose. Just clean off the crust and put a clamp on it. Then see what happens in a few days

Yea that is what I think too...should that black plastic housing be replaced? Is there a gasket in there?

Well, seeing how you have an 05 tacoma. The gasket could have just gotten old. You can go to the dealer and they can pull up schematic for the motor. then you can show then what it is, then they can tell you what it is exactly
