So in conclusion, if you mess up your diff breather mod, trade in your truck... haha makes sense. Nice truck!

Well, that's one way to do it! Congrats! Was the lifted '13 brand new, or previously owned?

Damn. Talking about an extreme way to fix a stripped union in the differential. I'll never understand. You must be young.

I wonder if the dealer is going to screw someone with the stripped out breather!

    Survey says!

    Yes!

Always wanted a lifted taco. Got a fair trade for this one and my payments are less. I am young but I'm educated,I work for a living , my wife is a nurse practitioner , and I'm smart with my money.

should have went to a machinist....

and set the record straight, once you strip threads, you can never just re-tap the hole.

I get that kind of shit at work all the time about people stripping threads and telling me that I can "just re-tap it" which leads to their hurt feelings.

once the metal is gone, it's gone. you have to step up the hole/thread size, install a heli-coil, or a plug.

anything else is begging for sad times.

Hey I did this too, only overtightened a little bit though, not to the point where it was free spinning, just got easier to turn before I stopped. The union was brass so what do you guys think am I good to just replace it with a new one and the threads on the differential housing should be fine? @landphil

i’m definitely going to fix it before I go play Oregon Trail in this wagon, but out of curiosity do you guys think there will be any risk of water getting into the differential at the union? Or should that be all sealed up nice and tight because it’s screwed in and there are some threads remaining?

Sounds like it worked for you, nice!

What happened with the threads, were the ones on your differential housing damaged?

And what’s that about those brakes?

When I changed from OEM that came with the truck and put in a union to be able to attach a hose I had to use teflon tape to hold it in the diff. As to brakes - the one way OEM breather allows pressure to blow the seal - that's why we change to a 2 way breather - when the pressure blows the seal diff fluid goes into the rear brakes rendering them useless - brake shoes don't work soaked in oil.

Oh man that is crazy about the brakes! I’ll reply here with how my Amazon union fits in, and report on damage to threads on the brass Union and/or (hopefully not) my differential housing.
