A Sig P238 and an unusually protective (for the breed) lab who we accurately refer to as "The Shark". Personally, I'd rather face a P238.

I concur with this. It is non-lethal, legal in most places, and will give you time to get out of the situation.

I've been pepper sprayed twice (military MP). I'd rather get tasered (been tasered, too, for work). The taser hurts like a mother fucker for 5-8 seconds, then it's over. Pepper spray hurts like a mother fucker for a good hour. Then when you go to take a shower... it hurts again.

    Nothing.

Pretty much anything that can be used for self defense is a felony to have in the cab of your truck in California. As a teenager I came about .5 seconds from going to jail and taking a felony beef over a baseball bat in the hatchback of my car.

I have a big, bright flashlight, a pocketknife and a small container of hot sauce in a handy spray container. But no weapons.

    :(

When I am in a free state, something in the .40 or .45 variety.

^Apply for a CCW. Ninth circuit said CA's practice of denying everyfuckingbody was unconstitutional. Unless you have a reason for them not to give you one, they have to now.

Sheriff of San Diego county is ignoring the ruling and spearheading the charge to get it overturned.

Business as usual here in SD.

I just don't understand that. Yeah, the sheriff is an elected position so he has to be political, but with all the military in SD county I'd bet they lean more conservative than liberal. So do cops for that matter... strange position for him to take.

    Move to Florida.

I live in Miami, Got pulled over the other day. Officer asked if I had any weapons in the car. It took me a sec to count. I was like 1,2...3,4,5...6..7.8. total. He was like what? Why? Why do you have so many.? I told him me and some friends today went to the range. We collect and enjoy as well as because we can. He laughed, asked me to get out of my truck while he ran my license. Came back told me slow down and have a goodnight.

And thats not the only time i've gotten pulled over. The last time was a statetrooper, he turned out to be super cool. He fell in love with a ar pistol i have and him and his partner started showing me there ar's. all this on the side of I95 while traffic. It was awesome

It is an elected position and San Diego county is somewhat conservative. But the outgoing Sheriff always handpicks a successor that they support. And since they hand out CCWs to their big donors and the wealthy/important, nobody really puts up a fight about it on a local level.

Given that it is pretty much a "sheriff for life" position, barring a scandal that goes public, it ain't nothing gonna change.

Even with friends in the department, I have been told "don't waste your time" as far as applying for a permit.

Glad I live in a 2nd Amendment friendly State so I don't have to worry about non-gun protection.
