My newest family member. I already own 94 dlx 4x4, and 2-98 4runners(twins). I got this for free, from my wife's cousin. He burnt up the factory clutch @ 373K had a new clutch installed less than a year ago and wouldn't shift correctly after about 6 months of use. The mechanic told him he would need a new tranny @ $2500 part/labor. He parked it and bought a new truck, now I own it. I brought it home and upon closer inspection the ding a ling mechanic either didn't install the bell housing bolts or didn't tighten them and they all fell out. It shifts fine when the motor is off and its blocked out when the engine is running. I'm pretty sure the pp is toast because when you crank it up in gear the truck tries to take off with the clutch depressed. I plan on dropping the tranny sometime later this month, breaking down the tranny and inspect everything before I install a new clutch and the tranny. It's a 98 single cab 2.7l 4x4 with 379k miles still cranks right up and runs like a new engine(going to inspect the engine while it's down also). I plan to get in fixed and cleaned up to give to my son next year for his college graduation. Ok, enough story telling here is a picture.

I love the 99's. I had one, wish I had never gotten rid of her. :(

    Good luck with it.

I just got thru ordering some parts for it. I got an Excedy HD Clutch kit and new flywheel coming. I ordered the shifter seat, bushing and rubber shift boots form marlin crawler. The engine compartment is all dirty and stuff, I'm going to clean it up asap. It going to need a new valve cover gasket and some incidentals. I figured while it was down I would run compression test on all the cylinders, pressure test on the cooling system. I had just recently installed a new radiator, hoses, and belts. I also replaced the upper and lower ball joints, shocks and struts, brake pads and rotors. So I know pretty much the history of the truck maintenance.

Started ripping out the interior of the truck to be cleaned. Plan on replacing carpet, recovering the seats, have the interior professionally cleaned. Have the underbody and motor compartment pressure washed and cleaned. and Rhino line the bed. Here is a few pictures from the years of hard use and neglect. I'm proud to own this and hope to be able to get it back in shape and pass it on to my son when he graduates from college later on.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Looks like she's good to go another 373k now! :) Good to know there are people around still dedicated to keeping old trucks on the road. Most people, like your cousin, would have just given up on a truck with that many miles and sent it to the scrapyard. First gen Tacomas are becoming rarer and rarer each day, we must preserve them for the future generation to enjoy! If I ever have a kid, he/she will be getting a first gen Tacoma for a first vehicle too.

Thanks, I owe a big thanks to all the people that have donated and sold me parts to make this possible. We are installing new wheel bearings, a locking front diff and fixing a oil leak on it this weekend. I got the fender flares here on TW classifieds. I had to get them as separates, I couldn't find an entire set together. But it worked out in the end.

Looks good man! I love my gold 99. How did that bearing and seal swap go? I know you commented on my post about it but just curious.

11143278_786103364842514_5141622709735196434_n.jpg Still working on it. I was recruited to go grocery shopping and that turned into an all day excursion. My parent's showed up this morning without notice on their way back from vacation. So it looks like it will be later tonight or tomorrow before I can get back to work. So far I have the bearing swapped and ready to be reinstalled. I have to drop the diff, change the center(locked)section over and fix the oil pan gasket.

Oil leak fixed, locking diff installed and wheel bearings done. I'll drive it for a couple days to make sure it is ok and then reinstall skids.
