Okay, so now I feel a little dumb... You see my wife has a Toyota too, and in her gas door there is a cradle to rest the cap while you are filling (or the bum in Oregon where they don't think a driver can handle it). I got hers and my gas cap holders mixed up!

Anyway, the Tacoma has a hook that still holds the cap, but by the leash. The main point is it still doesn't touch the paint.

    Here is mine...

This is exactly what I do. If I wasn't "allowed" to pump my own gas, I'd cut the leash to force the attendant to place the cap somewhere else.

Like lay it on top of the pump and then forget to put it back on.

I guess it might be if you just unscrew and drop it allowing it to and hit the paint or leave off and drive away. I guess everything needs to be idiot proofed these days.

Like lay it on the wheel hump in the bed so even if you do forget it, it is still in the bed.

I know, I know, but I needed a half ton.
I stick mine in the pump handle and use it to hold the pump on..

I didnt know what to expect when I opened this thread. People seriously worry about a little plastic cap resting against the truck? How in the hell would that scratch the Paint? Unless you grab the cap and gouge the paint with it. when you guys open your doors, do you make absolute sure no part of your hand/ fingers touch the paint? I take my cap off and gently rest it against the truck. Put it back on, and done! daily life, u.v radiation, weather etc has got to be WAY more harsh than the damn gas cap resting on the truck side.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
I just set it on the bed rail.

Next you'll see a three hundred post thread on which leg of your underpants to pull your dick out of to take a leak. ...Or over the top.
