Got rid of the in my opinion ugly, cheap looking, painted silver steering wheel Bluetooth and audio trim surround. Swapped out for the piano black trim from the '14 Trail Edition T4R. Was skeptical at first, if this was even going to work, or be a straight forward swap onto my Tacoma, and overall it was.

I ran into only one snag. For what ever reason, eventhough the bus connection that plugs in behind the airbag was the same physical shape, and did actually plug into the same spot on the clock-spring as the Tacoma bus connection. The T4R bus connection plug, pins had a different arrangement where they feed through the bus connector (Doesn't make sense as the parts are identical, save for the DISP feature on the T4R). This required me to essentially swap the pig-tail & guts from the Tacoma trim/ controls, to the new piano black 4R trim.

I didn't actually realize this, until I bolted everything back up, and none of the controls worked on the new part. Had to undo the airbag, and new trim and swap the pigtail and guts, then everything worked again.

One minor issue, the T4R trim has an extra button DISP, that does nothing on the Tacoma. I went in knowing this, but was optimistically hoping it would at the very least toggle the LCD trip computer in our clusters, but it doesn't. It also doesn't bother me having a button there that doesn't do anything, as I think the end result looks extremely amazing. I feel like it transformed my trucks rather plain looking interior, to somewhat more upscale looking.

This trim should be stock on Limited's, TRD-Pro's and possibly Sports & SR's. I'm not sure how it would tie in with the silver accents around the heating and air vents, and center console on SR5's and TRD OR's, but it blends perfectly with the subtle piano black accent around the tweeters on the front doors, and my OEM, TRD shift knob.

Anyway here is the end result.

If anyone is interested, I ordered this part online from Camelback Toyota in Phoenix AZ. They listed the part MSRP at $444.12 and sold it to me $320.40 less another -$10.00 for using Paypal, Plus $14.64 shipping. OTD was $325.02. Kind of spendy I know for a part like this, but I'm really anal about vehicle interiors. I can't stand shiny, chrome or silver pained surfaces inside the cabin. So it was totally worth it for me.

    P/N 84250-35080-CO

Took about two weeks to get, was on some sort of backorder. I'm sure this is a part that never needs to be replaced, ever. Hence the long wait to get it.

I think it looks pretty good but yeeeeow $320!. I'm anxious to see how well the gray color holds up after some miles. I'd be tempted to shoot them with some Krylon Fusion paint for a few $$$ before I shelled out that kind of denaro.

You spent $325 to change the color of the trim on the steering wheel? Day-um! (-:

I've blown more money on crazier stuff, why not. Bills are paid, lights are on, kids college is funded, food on the table. Only live once

Looks good. I've thought about blacking out the interior of my '07.

    Not enough...
That looks pretty sick! I'll trade you my stereo surround (looks like same piano black material as the 4R steering wheel trim) for your matte black one ;)

Vinyl wrapped with that carbon fiber (ish) material used on the dash would look pretty good, as a cheaper approach. I guess I never really stopped to consider the color of my wheel trim.

How did you remove and install the plastic? I have been thinking about doing this very same thing. Except doing all the painting my self. Gloss black isn't my first choice either, I would want a satin finish. The silver inside looks tacky.
