You'll be fine as long as you don't need to count higher than 4.5 on that hand.

Does anyone have experience with Magicshine and NiteRider lights?

I would like to pick up a second light for my gf so we can start bike riding after work in fall once its dark out early. Also would like to use it for XC skiing with a headband mount.

Started looking at NiteRider Minewt 350 USB Plus and Magicshine MJ838B (400 lumen) lights.

Would those 350 - 400 lights be ok for easy trail riding and city commuter trails? NR Minewt Pro 750 and Magicshine 808E (1000 lumen) are an option but another $80 or so extra.

How do these do in rain and snow? Quality wise, I'm guessing NR wins? Thanks. :)

There are a lot of cheaper and equally as good lights out there. lightandmotion.com offer some 350's for $70. Lezyne too.

Thanks for the link. Part of my issue is shipping to Canada. (I need to find something that is available here or cost of shipping across the border is reasonable).

I found NR Minewt 350 Plus for $82 and Minewt Pro 750 for $149.

Is 350 lumen range of lights usable for trails (easy going, not racing against the clock) or is it more meant for commuting?

I've used my old minewt-300 for trail riding. It will get the job done, but not super bright. Truth be told I wish I would have gone with Light and Motion if I had the chance again, too bad they're not sold in Canada. They're competitively priced and made in California.

For commuting, the most important thing isn't to see but be seen. So having a good flashing light on the back and a bright light on the front are best. Unless you're riding in pitch black, the 350 would be good for that. However for trails, I like to run a bright bar mounted light and another on the helmet to see where I look.

I've owned the NR Miniewt 350 and it's surprisingly bright for it's size. It'll suffice for easy going trail rides but you'll need to step up to the Pro version if you start picking up your pace or live in a really techical area. I thought I'd get into night riding but ended up getting rid of it due to lack of use. I just use a Cree LED headlamp the few times I ride at night now but only hit up some gravel roads for cardio so it works for me.

The Chinese lights that utilize the Cree LEDs are cheap on eBay and have really good light output. Not the quality of NR or L&M, but you can afford 4 or 5 of them for the same amount of money. I use one on the low setting for night mountain bike rides. Mine might be a little too much for riding on the street, though.

I agree.....after a certain point you won't see any better but will just continually blind everyone else.

I do most of my night riding on trails where no one else is out so I really kinda don't try to grasp the concept of too much light at night. As long as you can run on dim to not blind when in civilization and not set stuff on fire in the woods with your bright ass lights, then it's all good. Tail lights, meh, they all blink red for thousands of hours and are plenty visible, beyond that I do not know of a tail light to be excited about.

You guys think lights that charge themselves from special wheels/cranks would ever hit the market?

I have a 3 watt halogen that is run off a Nexus Generator hub.....but it isn't enough to ride trails and not on a mtb. I don't see why they couldn't do something like that tho.

Bought new bars after really having a hard time getting used to the angle. I bought a 30* stem and it helped but being 6'9" it wasn't enough. So I bought some Titec 750mm bars with a 42mm rise and 5* up, 9* back sweep. Should help me out enough to finally ride longer and more comfortable.
