Ah, I didn't realize it was such a weak V8.... I figured surely it was stronger than our V6 by more than 30...

Thanks. Why is the V8 almost as powerful as the V6? And I don't want it to be a Tundra. I want it to remain what it is, the best mid-size truck. Other trucks are getting more and more capable. Why not the Tacoma? I don't think improving the engine is a tall order for Toyota.

As for wanting full size performance from a mid size truck? Not in the same year model within the same company, because the full size wouldn't sell. But I'm a firm believer in improvement as the model years progress. Not much for settling.

"Unlike its other UZ counterparts, this version uses a cast iron block to increase durability, as it was designed for low-reving, high-torque pickup and SUV applications. Output varies by implementation, but one VVT-i variant produces 202 kW (271 hp) at 4800 rpm with 427 N·m (315 lbf·ft) of torque at 3400 rpm. For 2010, it was replaced by the 1UR-FE or 3UR-FE"

I think that motor is a timing belt, however. Even though I've really always wondered why they could put the V8 in the 4Runner, but not the Taco.

Edit - Yep - Timing belt " It has proved to be a strong, reliable and smooth powerplant with features such as 6-bolt main bearings and belt-driven quad-camshafts. The water pump is also driven by the cam belt."

Correct. The current 4-runner is a V6. The V8 was only in very limited numbers in the previous generation 4-runner.

I did not say they were more capable than a Tacoma. I said they were getting more capable in general, as in they were improving themselves. Not more capable than the Tacoma.

Thanks for answering that, I think I started a storm... That;s what I meant by stepping on a land mine.

Also, I didn't realize the 4Rs no longer had V8s.

But if wishes were fishes, I'm still wishing for the 4.6 liter V8

    "4.6-liter[edit]
    1UR-FSE[edit]

    1UR-FSE
The 1UR-FSE V8 engine, introduced with the Lexus LS 460 & LS 460 L luxury sedans in 2006 has a 4.6 liter (4608cc) displacement, which it gets from a 94 mm bore and 83 mm stroke. The engine includes D4-S direct injection and dual VVT-iE producing 385 hp (287 kW) at 6,400 rpm and 51 kg·m (500 N·m; 369 lb·ft) at 4,100 rpm.

1UR-FSE undergoes X-ray inspection and a CT (computed tomography) scan to ensure minimal deformation after the die-casting process. Camshafts are hollow to minimize weight.[2]

    Applications:

    2007 Lexus LS 460 & LS 460 L
    2008 Lexus GS 460
    2009 Toyota Crown Majesta

    1UR-FE[edit]
The 1UR-FE is based on the 1UR-FSE but lacks the D4-S direct injection technology. Originally used for Lexuses in the Middle East, it was introduced in 2010 in other markets to replace the 2UZ-FE engine in truck and SUV applications. This engine produces 347 hp (259 kW) at 6,400 rpm and 46.9 kg·m (460 N·m; 339 lb·ft) at 4,100 rpm in the Lexus GS and LS. For the Toyota Land Cruiser the engine produces 304 hp (227 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 44.8 kg·m (439 N·m; 324 lb·ft) at 3,400 rpm.

    Applications:

    2007–present Lexus LS 460 & LS 460 L (Middle East)
2005-2011 Lexus GS 460 (Middle East)
    2010–present Lexus GX 460
2012 Toyota Land Cruiser (China and Middle East and Australia)
    2010–present Toyota Sequoia
    2010–present Toyota Tundra"

I was under the impression that the 4R still had a V8. So when he said the engine (speaking about the v6) wasn't much stronger I was just confused. I was thinking V8 the whole time.

It's a mule! It's the new chassis (potentially new motor) hidden by current sheet metal.

I think he was just saying that the Tacoma hasn't been "improved" more compared to other trucks

The 2nd gen has continually rotating CV shafts, and front differential, as well as a front driveshaft that also spins at all times (just not under engine power until you engage 4wd) so there is no need for the old-school way of taking care of the front diff.

    Yes and Yes

    Still a drum setup sadly.
