Alright guys got some pictures to show what I have been working on.

Here is the home made die I made. I used an old rusted die that was no good. I turned it upside down. In other words the part that is usually used is on top. I drilled two holes. One is 12mm and the other is 11mm. I then polished the die with finer and finer sandpaper until it was smooth. The smoother the better. The bolt sticking up is a stop for the press to bump against to create consistent shells. The shoulder headspaces the case and needs to be consistent.

Using cut down 308 and 7mm-08 I had laying around. 243, 308, 7mm-08 will work. Some have used 3006 but they are rough on extractors.

Here is the finished product as far as the shell. I have to fine tune the powder charge, wads, and shot. I am using about 100-125 grs of No. 9 shot. 4.5 grs of Green Dot to start with. If anyone tries this research your own load data to be safe. So far I have gotten the shell to operate the slide and eject the shell but not come back far enough to catch the next round. Have not had time to mess with it anymore.

Neat, dude! Have you seen the old Remington loads that are basically star crimped into a round nose profile? One time use of course, but I always assumed they were made from 308 brass. No card needed. Cool project!

Thanks! I have seen those. I would think those being so small could have very little shot. These are also reusable. The next thing I want to try is a few 410 bore wads and trim those to length.

How do you reuse them? Have to buy a special die? Or can you use a 410 star crimp die on them maybe?

The ones I am making are reusable. I am not sure about the remingtons. Appears they would have a lot of metal fatigue at best.

Right on - that's a big improvement right there.

I also don't think the old Remingtons would operate the slide. I could be wrong. Seems I read somewhere they wouldn't.

I know at least one old timer. who had dedicated 1911s set up for snake shot and he definitely had to use a lighter recoil spring. But he says it was reliable with the lighter spring & factory rem shot loads.

I stand corrected. My ultimate goal is too be able to fire full power 230 gr round nose and these shot shells without modifying my XDm and making it cycle reliably.

I think you're well on your way. That will be some serious snake medicine if you can get enough shot & powder in there to make them run the XD reliably. Again - cool project!

    Update to this project...

Got a couple rounds to fully operate the action. Fire, eject, feed, and fire again. Unfortunately I am using just some cardboard for now. I have wads ordered and with a bit more fine tuning I can get this to work more consistent.

    Update to this thread.

Ordered some Claybuster CB5050-410HS. Also bought a set of 41 magnum lee dies. Mine worked but the wads didn't fit. I was necking too much. So I found a really good deal on a set. Used the lee seating die to neck them down. Loaded 5.5grs of Unique then inserted the wad and pressed it in place. The wads were cut shorter than the total length to leave room for the overshot wad. Filled with No. 9 shot and crimped in an overshot wad. Fed, chambered, fired, and ejected perfectly.

Must have lost you somewhere- .41 mag dies? is that for the nose, or are we loading .41 mag shotshells now?

Nope. The 41 mag dies put a shoulder on the case. They make it the correct size to insert a 410 wad.

Switching from 150 gr GameKings to 150 gr tipped TSX for deer season this year. The GameKings do the job but I should have less ruined meat with the TTSX. Plus they should be a little better for pigs if I get down south. Anyone have any experience with the TTSX?

Well I'm finally in a position to get into reloading, we moved from Ca to Ms and our new place is ~1,200 sq ft. with no garage, our house is on pillars so a trailer can fit under the house.
Could I reload in a 6'x18'' box trailer if I opened the doors and set up a fan to circulate?
I will be reloading 6.8 SPC, and probably some 270, 357 magnum, 30-30, and .223/556.

I'll be using a lee single stage

    Moisture/humidity would be a concern.

Humidity? South Ms doesn't have humidity :p
Mainly for the powder? I could store the powder in the house and the exposure time would be limited.
