My understanding, via my grandfather, is it was 2 things but I forget the order and can only say they both occurred a long time ago:

1. When they came thundering out onto the field the announcer said "here come the elephants."

2. Crimson tide comes from a particular game where it was raining and they were covered in red clay mud by the end leading to them "running over the other team like a crimson tide" or some such statement.

And, RAPR, no offense or anything but I can't help but read your name as "raper" when you post all the cheerleader pics!

The real question is why Auburn is the tigers, would rather claim a "war eagle," but in actuality they're all just boogers.

 

One week till my boys take the field. That was a quick 8 months

 

It wasn't an announcer, it was a fan in the stands, and the mud game, Bammer wasn't running over any one, the was against Auburn and the final score was 6-6.
And no Auburn fan with any ties to the school refers to them selves as War Eagles.

 

Texas A&M vs. South Carolina next Thursday night(6pm).....10.5 pt. spread given to A&M. Thoughts?
