I picked up a new yak a couple months ago. 11' old town heron xt. Made it into a fishing boat. I have been out on it most every night. Anyone in central jersey want to fish? I have some good spots!

I have two Wilderness Systems Ride 135 kayaks that I fish out of. They are sit to top and they are very stable (I point cast off them standing up all the time.) They are big and relatively heavy, but they track great and do well offshore. It's a great all around boat for fresh and saltwater. This year, they are coming out with the Air Max Pro seating system will make them a bit more flexible as far as use. Good storage and rail systems for rod holders, fish finders, etc. I love ours and we use them quite a bit!

Not quite a kayak, but I have caught some solid fish out of my sweet party yacht:

Last night, scooped up this guy at about 830 night fishing on my fly rod from it. Pretty fun when they pull you around the lake a little. This pig was about 6-7lbs and 19-20" long.

Well I have a Tundra but I kayak fish all the time. Im on staff with Native Watercraft and AquaBound/Bending Branches and write in my own blog and the occasional article for the fishermans journal. Anyways enough humble brags haha. I thought it was really cool there was a kayak fishing thread here. Just picked up the new Slayer 10 last friday.

My Slayer is probably about 70 lbs. Not too bad. It has a wheel on the stern to help you move it around.

I don't know where you're from, but the absolute best place I've found is these guys: http://store.bigcedarcreek.com/

They're not so good at updating inventory on the website, but give 'em a call. I've bought two WS kayaks from them, got paddles vests, and a few extras for the same price everybody else was selling just the boat for. Good people to deal with, at least in my experience.

I'd look at a Ride115 or 135. Super stable. I know there are others that would be just as stable, but those are my picks.

Just my 2 cents worth. Read all the reviews you can, and good luck in your search.

Agree with the above. The Ride series are supposed to be really stable. Not sure how much stability you need for photography. You may be better suited by something faster so you can cover more water, maybe a WS Tarpon 120 or 140. Bass Pro has some less expensive kayaks that are still good quality.

Theres got to be a kayak shop down there somewhere close to you. I would suggest finding somewhere to test paddle some boats. I just found a good deal on my Slayer so I bought it without test driving any. I almost bought a Ride 115X Max before the slayer popped up on CL.

There's a Pensacola Kayak fishing Forum, I believe. I bet they have a classified section where you might find a deal on a used yak.

Malibu Stealth's are nice. You could get a used on in your price range.

Jackson Cousa. Great for fishing, stable enough to stand up in!
