    The only thing I don't like about my truck is the 4WD selector, I recently read about guys swapping out the FJ transfer case in the v6 6speed.

    Does it work with the 2.7 5 speed?

    If not, would the 6 speed transmission bolt up to the 2.7? would it be as simple as swapping out the bell housing to make it match up?

    I hear Toyota is pretty iffy when it comes to different transmissions and shit in their trucks. Just to be a headache!

    No problem. Check ebay for used FJ tcases. I found one with 33k miles for $460 shipped, minus the shifter but I am going to twin stick it.

    From what I've read, the auto FJ tcase bolts up to the 6 speed manual Taco tanny. The manual tcase is longer? I think?

    I've read so much on this and I'm running on an hour and a half of sleep. So I'm a little foggy..

    I think you have to twinstick it because the "J" pattern won't work in the shifter thing in the console, I think..

    No. The FJ case will bolt up to the tacoma a750f 4wd transmission. A 6 spd full time 4wd FJ case will not work.

    I don't know if you will NEED to twin stick with your 5 speed. One member has used the stock FJ shifter with the auto, but I think it's more of a PITA with the limited space next to the shifter. I'm going to hit up front range offroad for a twinstick setup

    Legitimately the only thing I don't like about my truck.

    Maybe add a couple more cylinders.. But I'm pretty comfortable with my 2.7, for now.

    Here it compares the FJ and Taco tcases. It says;
    "In the picture below are the two different input shafts that you'll find in the Tacoma and FJ Cruiser t case's. The huge one is the 22 spline six speed input shaft and planetary gearset and the smaller one is the 23 spline automatic input shaft and planetary gear set. You'll also find the 23 spline case in the 2.7 4 cylinder Tacoma. As you can see the six speed input shaft is huge compaired to the 23 spline shaft from the Automatic transmission trucks. Everything else is the same with the exception of the front plate so they are a simple swap if you know what your doing."

    That being said, The input shafts are different on the 2.7 compared to the v6, so it wont work? or is he saying that you need to swap them out?

    If I'm understanding correctly, the 2.7 and V6 auto are the same. It's the 6 spd that needs the input/front plate swapped. I think.

    hmmm I think you're right too. It's just a lot of money to toss at something that might not work, I'll have to look into it further.

    So, by the looks of things, it'll work? I'll have to do some more research obviously, but so far it looks promising!
