    Hey all,

I am new to the truck scene and had a few questions.

    1. What is longtravel, full uptravel, downtravel, etc.? What are each used for?

    2. Why do some folks seem so adamant on having a 3inch max lift? I read something about lower clearance at higher lifts which kinda boggles my mind.

    Thanks

Long travel is custom wider control arms than stock.

uptravel is how much up you can get on the suspension before hitting the bump stops

downtravel is how much down you can get before hitting the bump stop (internal or external)

3 Inch max is generally the easiest to manage without getting too top heavy, using a drop bracket lift :)eek:) Or the dreaded body lift.

Are long travel kits really a headache? I've read about it on this website and love the functionality, but it seems like things break left and right..

    Getting there...
Long travel requires a lot of aftermarket parts. New upper and lower control arms, shocks, shock hoops, and bumpstops plus some other stuff. Rear can completely change depending on the extent the person wants. New leafs, conversion to springs, linking, cutting the bed, etc. Plus the fact that long travel trucks are usually driven much harder than your everyday truck. Gotta pay to play!

What lift would you guys recommend for a daily driver and occasional camping, desert, hills, etc.?

I was gonna go with a drop bracket but the more I read the more I want to turn away

OME Lift, or something around 2-3 inches. Depends on your budget really...

For occasional camping. I think I would leave it stock. Spend the money on camping supplies, tents, cooking gear and comfort items

    What he said!
People Camped for literally thousands of years without lifting their trucks :)

Because after about three inches of lift, you're just making the truck taller, not increasing clearance. The lifts higher than three inches just drop the transfer case/drivetrain lower so the frame and body move up.
