So this is the 4th time I've had my passenger side half axle out to rebuild the assembly and now I'm trying to get the star off the end to get the outer boot onto the shaft. All the videos say that I should have to take a snap ring off of the shaft and just slide the star off of the shaft... Except that mine doesn't have a snap ring holding the start on. it seems to be just pressed on. anyone have any ideas how I can get this thing off? I already tried a hammer and a rod and ended up making one of the wheel bearings with all the needle bearings inside it go flying... any idea's?

Sometimes it needs to be pressed off at a shop. It will look like this (you will need a new axel. This shouldn't happen, it should come off easy):

the inner tulip is held on by a c clip. Sometimes it comes off easy, others require a puller.

The outer birfield DOES NOT need to be disassembled for a simple boot replacement. Put them both on from the inner side once the tulip is removed.

Edit : pictures above are from a extended axle shaft install for long travel. If you can't bang it out with the pipe slide hammer method you have to cut the axle and disassemble the bearing cage and press the stub out because of the internal e clip.

yeah just trying to take the inner star off, it has a ring holding it on to keep me from pushing it further onto the shaft and I don't have any snap ring pliers that would let me take the inner/inner ring off. guess thats what I get. I'm going to go have a beer.

Beer is always a good call. Small flat head screw drivers and a lot of cursing will get the snap ring off. Anyone close by you that has snap ring pliers? They def make it a snap :cookiemonster:

Use a pair of needle nose to spread the clips.
