    Greetings,

I just purchased a older model Snug Top Super Sport for $325.00. It matches the truck really well, but I have never owned one before. I just can't decide if it is worth it to own.

    Pros:
    - Covered Bed

    Cons:
    - MPG
    - Maintenance

    Thanks in advance.

Personally, I say yes. Remove a couple ounces of lead from your right foot and MPG should be reasonable.

    What maintenance?

My MPGs stayed the same on the D-cab, but my old truck with the 2.7 and 5 speed may have dropped 1-2 mpgs. I think the Mud tires you are rocking would do that too. For me the cap serves a purpose, my old one was to keep rain off my tools and keep honest people honest. I could go get a beer after work and not stress about someone grabbing my compressor or chop saw.

    Yes.

First of all, that's a great price for a color matched high quality toper.

Second of all, you added a lot of versatility to your truck now.

Third of all, at most you'll see a 0.5 mpg difference with the topper on versus no topper with an empty bed.

I just picked up my Snugtop yesterday too, for a steal of $130! I love it so far. I was thinking I might be taking it on and off depending on my needs, but after putting it on and looking at it I think I might just leave it on all the time :)

A cap should help a little with MPG as it stops the drag from a empty bed, yet the added weight should even things out.
What maintenance? If you used a quality seal around the bed there should be no maint. except for washing and waxing.
And you now have a dry bed to store and transport all yer goodies without worrying about the weather.

I have seen no difference in MPG camper shell on or off (mine is an ARE, but I don't think brand would be a significant factor).
Pros - keeps you stuff (hi-lift, toolbox, etc.) dry, secure (hunting & camping gear, etc.) & prevents bed rusting.
Cons - harder to see through backing up (especially in the dark), more area to wash/wax, limited size items now fit into the bed, and your truck now looks like an SUV.
Personally, I want my shell, that is why I bought it!

The best mpg I got was with the topper off and an empty bed. If there is anything in your bed with the topper off your mpgs will decrease.

The second best mpg I get is with the topper on.

The difference between the two is 0.5 - 1.0 mpg.

What bed liner do you have, and did you modify it to put the Snug top on?
I just picked one up yesterday and the liner (over the rail) makes the fit not so good.

My truck came with a camper on it. I had planned to take it off. Never did. Especially living in Seattle where it's wet all the time I love having that extra dry storage. Costco Trip!!! Add a Bed Rug, a lockable tailgate and you're in.

I wish I could find a good deal on one. I say YES, keep it. Toppers are awesome.
