I'm going to order tires this Friday, 265/75r16's, but won't have a lift until next weekend, who is running 31" tires on a stock height 1st gen, or is it even possible?

3" for now, going off to school soon, then after that I have big plans for it, but for now 3" with nice bumpers.

Do you think I could get away with 32" ?

Yea definitely. I ran 32x11.50x15 with no lift of rear and just the 5100s on top setting in the front. Just did some trimming. I'm on 33s right now with a 3-3.5" lift. I'm about to put some adjustable coilovers on mine. You should definitely go with 285/75/16s because those 265s will look small with 3" lift

I ran 31's on my 1st gen with no lift and they fit fine. If you go with a 3" lift you may want a little bigger tire.

This is my truck with 31x10.5 KM2's that I put on my truck prior to lifting. And this suspension was VERY worn out. The front suspension would bottom out going over bumps on the highway. You will be fine.

TRD Off Road models came with stock 31" tires from the factory ... so yeah, they'll fit.

you can get away with up to a 265/75r16

Same here 265:75/16- had no problems with the previous x-cab and then moved them to the DC TRD we have - no problems.

just so you know the 265/75/16 are considered 32" tires (roughly 31.6") and the 98-04 TRD models came with 31x10.5/15 or 265/70/16 which are 31" (roughly 30.6")

32's fit with no lift. Expect slight rubbing on the frame a full lock. Rubs on a flat part of the frame so it doesn't hurt a thing.

I'd go 255/85 but that's just me. My truck came with 31s stock. Ran 32x11.5 on stock suspension. Now on 33x10.50 on maybe 2 inches of lift.

Does this include base 2wd Tacoma as well? Or just the 4x4 models? I'm wondering how big I can go without lifting on a 2004.

    Yes :D

    Accortding to Tire Rack:

I'm running LT265/75/16 BFG's with 661's up front and Skyjacker AAL's in the rear. Plenty of fender clearance, in fact, it has that 'factory highboy' look to it. It would easily take 33's right now.
