Does welding sliders to the frame void warranty?

    none yet. ideas?
I just bought some Demello weld on sliders for my 2014 and a mechanic told me that it might void the warranty. I also crawled under it, and I'm starting to wonder if that frame is strong enough to support the truck if it's resting on the slider alone.

Has anyone welded on sliders and had frame damage from off-road use?

I'm not 100% sure but i'd have to say that anything welded to the frame would most likely void warranty if you did go in with any type of frame damage. Whenever i take my truck to the dealer they jump all over me when it comes to any part that looks like i might be offroading with my truck (duratracs, brushguard, rear diff breather etc) not sure how your dealer is but mine wouldnt warranty anything if i admitted i was actually offroad with the truck. If you had sliders welded on then they would know what they're used for and probably fight you to no end on any part that needed fixing under warranty. Maybe thats just my dealer tho lol.......

It'll most likely void any type of frame warranty. Think it's 5 years unlimited miles? Your frame will support the truck lifted up by sliders no problem. In fact welded sliders will increase frame strength.

Tough call with the amount of frames toyotas been replacing due to rust the last few years... I'm going with bolt on for this exact reason... i know they're not as strong but I'd rather maintain the option to have my frame replaced if the scenario arises.

I've had sliders welded to my frame for almost ten years. It's been dragged through rock piles, lifted with a hilift dozens of times, and generally abused. No issues at all. If welded right, it will strengthen the frame considerably. They do flex a little when you jack up the truck on them, they are supposed to. I wouldn't worry about the frame ever needing warranty work in Texas. Maybe in the rust belt states.

They'll still probably give you shit on warranty issues after you poke a bunch of holes in the frame.

Yes it will void your warranty any modifications like drilling, welding, gusseting etc your frame, it will completely void your manufactures warranty only to the parts that were modified, meaning if you decide to weld on sliders and your transmission goes boom your transmission will still be covered.

There's some bolt ons that don't even require drilling, they use existing holes. Super weak tho. I wouldnt trust a hi-lift on them.

If you wanted to you could remove the welded sliders and make your frame look like OEM again with a few hours and a grinder

remember the dealer has to show that the after market part was the root cause for any damage to a particular part of the vehicle....

case in point, if you weld on sliders to the frame and you developed a hole in the frame 3 feel away due to corrosion and there is not a single sign of corrosion between the sliders and the frame then they cannot say that the installation of the slider was the root cause because corrosion does not work like that.

now if you have a hole next to the area where the weld beads then they can say that you voided the warranty due to improper installation. That is the one part of the The Magnuson-Moss warranty act that protects the dealer/manufacture but mostly the burden of proof is on them.

obviously you have not seen the SOS concepts sliders, that have a frame plate that uses all factory holes. No drilling required.

You sir are correct. Didn't even bother shopping bolt on models. There's just no freaking way I could trust a set to handle years of punishment like I could a set of weld on.

I asked the dealership a day or so ago about this when I took it in for it's first oil change. They said anything welded or drilled into the frame will void the frame warranty. You could get some that attach to the factor bolt holes as mentioned above, but I would question the strength of these. I've been going back and forth about this since my truck is still new, but I do wheel it and would like the protection.

The SOS Concept sliders look solid. In their pictures they have the trucks hi-lifted with the jack point on the slider. Does anyone know if that is only with the factory bolt locations or welded on?

    100% accurate right there!

And they are wrong. A dealership cannot void a warranty, PERIOD. All they can do is pass on to the manufacturer that a modification has been made. THEN they dealer AND manufacturer would have to prove that a failure was affected, or resulted from, a modification. Then, and only then can they deny a repair, but they STILL cannot blanket-void a warranty. Either way, the DEALERSHIP has absolutely ZERO power to "void" a repair. They are a franchise only, and the ultimate decision is based on the manufacturer, not the dealership.
