    Good news!

Hey that's some good news. My truck is making a racket running around on 87 right now. I can't seem to get a 1/2 day freed up to bring my truck in for the TSB.

Interesting. That 3800 mile road trip should be a great chance to test out the TSB! I hope you have a safe and fun drive. :)

I've never noticed any pinging or knocking, but maybe I just can't hear it. Is this TSB still worth it for me? Still a little unclear about what they are changing.

I had this done a couple weeks ago. Pinging stopped immediately on 87 octane. I have been about 400 miles so far and it has not returned. The engine is running smoother and quieter than ever before. Even pulling a trailer in 97 degree weather last week the truck wasn't as labored as before. Gas mileage has improved from 18.5 to 20mpg.

How many miles on your truck? I believe you have the full emissions warranty term to have this TSB completed under warranty - 80,000 miles or something like that. If it shows up noticeably running regular 87 unleaded fuel, you can bring it in at that time - your decision.

Is your Canadian dealer not allowing this TSB to be performed?

Beware -after they mess with the ECU your gas mileage will be poor for about 3-4 fillups...happened to me on another TSB so dont be surprised..it will reset itself at some point

Howdy. So far, most of the people reporting post-tsb have said that their mileage has remained the same as pre-tsb. These same few that have commented mentioned that they are hand-calculating mpg, so we know they are accurate. Even so, thanks for the note.

I'm at the dealer now. They are reluctant to perform the TSB and asked what grade fuel I use. They claimed that they performed this TSB twice before to different vehicles and it didn't solve the problem. I told them I would like it done anyway. We will see what happens when I get the truck back.

If you look at the checkout sheet that is stamped, the items that are labeled "Additional maintenance items for special working conditions", they are crossed out, not "checked" like the other items. Now if you were in the northeast or a place that gets heavy snow, all of those items would have to be checked off and inspected. But I do agree, dealerships do flat rate work, and techs are on flag time, so the longer they screw with something, that's money out of their pocket. I used to work at a dealership, and saw it frequently.

Is there a brake actuator recall on all 2013's that I'm not aware of? If I go in and get the TSB done for the the ECM, and they don't tell me about the brake actuator TSB and there is one for my truck, I'm going to go into orbit! That reminds me of GM and their lack of responsibility for all the ignition issues in the cobalts they knew about for the last like 8 years and did nothing. I understand it is costly, but not compared to unhappy customers not buying vehicles again or having a recall issue that kills somebody.

TX, yeah we kinda already discussed my post that you quoted. It's worth adding, however that when I questioned the service writer about those checked/crossed-off items, she looked me straight in the eye and told me "yes...we completed all the marked items."

Anyway, I had the TSB performed today. My wife was using the tacoma while I was wrenching on her Dodge Neon. She filled up the truck with premium like I have been since she knew it made the truck run smoother. About 1/2 a tank to use up then I'll switch to regular unleaded and see how this baby runs.

Oh I should mention that the same service writer that seemed reluctant to help me this morning, was more than helpful at the end of the day today when I picked up the truck. He offered a handshake, business card, and a request to call and let him know how the truck runs post-TSB.

Sometimes when someone is having a rough morning, give 'em a chance...they might turn around later in the day anyhow. Good stuff.

I read earlier that Toyota had been waiting for US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approval before releasing T-SB-0044-14 into the US Tacoma truck population. Canadian emission and MPG requirements are set by Environment Canada (EC) and could be different from US EPA requirements. So the software/firmware fix for US Tacoma models may or may not be appropriate to Canadian models. Any mention of a Canadian version of the TSB?

I noticed that this poll automatically closed. How can we continue to gather information about the post-TSB results if the poll is closed? Maybe a moderator or someone can chime in here or offer another suggested method?

Well I just fueled up today with 87 octane. I have driven approximately 1/2 tank on premium before today, and close to 20 miles on regular fuel. So far, so good. Engine seems to have no sign of the previous pinging/chatter/cacophony. Good stuff. I'll let you know how my mpg looks after 1-2 tanks.

Unless you see it mentioned in the attached TSB, I'm unaware of any notes on Canadian-specific TSB.
