Hi guys, I need some help. I want to change the tires on my Tacoma but need all the expertise from you guys before making a bad mistake. I searched the forums and really didn't find answers so i am asking now and if I did miss a thread please steer me in the right direction to find it before yelling at me. Lol anyway, as I mentioned I would like to put slightly bigger tires on my stock height prerunner without having any "rubbing" issues. My stocks are P245/70R16 and wondered if I could go up to a P265/75/16 without any rubbing/touching or other issues? I like the P's over the LT's because they are lighter and not as heavy. I don't want to bog her down or anything. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated! :D thanks guys!

There are like 32,000,000 threads on here about that. :)

But no worries, I was doing some research into that a few weeks back before making a decision and I read them all for you. The short answer, assuming your PreRunner is the same dimensionally as the 4WD (I think it should be), is YES.

Some threads note very minor rubbing with stock suspension and 275/75/16 tires, but almost all of those people have wheel spacers. I think I found maybe 1-2 people who noted rubbing with the larger tires on stock suspension with no spacers, and even those people noted the rubbing was on the mudflaps or those wierd "front" mini mudflaps ahead of the front tires and wasn't a functional issue.

I had already removed my mudflaps so this was of no concern to me.

I installed Firestone Destination AT 265/75/16 and have no rubbing, even under off road conditions. The truck looks a lot more burly, and the wheel wells are properly proportioned to the tires now. The truck is maybe a hair more sluggish (4 cyl) but I'm not too concerned with that. On the V6 it should be a non issue.

Thank you for your response. I really want to go with that size of a tire but I'm a little worried that it'll get more sluggish. You said yours got a hair more sluggish but I noticed you have a extended cab and I have a 4 door so I'm not sure if that would make a bigger difference because its already heavier. I guess the only way to know for sure would be to just get bigger tires! Lol

I put LT265/75s on my access cab 4 banger. The truck is more sluggish. With the original size it ran ok at 35 mph in fifth gear, but feels like it should be more like 40 before shifting now. The upside is that the odometer appears to be more accurate.

I thought the standard stock size was P245/75R16?

Anyway, going with P265/70R16 gives you more tread width but keeps the circumference the same as stock so your speedometer is not off. That size was also offered officially by Toyota.

After 45k miles on the OEM Dunlops I switched to 245/75 16 Goodrich All Terrain T/A. This is a more aggressive tread design, but hasn't been too noisy for me. These are much better in snow, and on unimproved roads (I don't do any off road driving, but spend a lot of time on gravel, dirt, and washed out roads).

    I like the looks too.

No problem. I'm loving mu cooper at3s in 265/75r16. They are p rated.

There is a little extra sluggishness but I only noticed immediately after. I mean, it is a 4 banger truck. I just don't expect much out of it in terms of speed.

This size looks great on a stock truck IMO. Here's mine:

I went with 265's (terra grapplers) and very little loss in performance and a 1-2 MPG decrease.
