How did you get 21+ gallons in the tank with out pushing it to the gas station? It only holds 21.1 gallons. It's what you put in to fill it not what it will hold. Even if you put in 18 gallons it 's still 14.5 miles to the gallon.

I worked my way up now to 22.5 mpg, that was until the light came on plus a little bit more, so technically I could get 400+mls per tank and still have some left to get me to the gas station LOL

    A few.
The OP doesn't listen very well does he? Im betting he doesn't even run the tank down until the low fuel light comes on and theres usually 4 gallons still in the tank at that point.

I'm averaging around 19-19.5 in my 12 trd sport prerunner. I get closer to 20.5-21 on the highway.

Awesome graph! How did you improve mileage this summer, compared to last?

    I added a bolt once...

On a side note...I installed the Ultra-Gauge and my mileage went from about18 to almost 21 mpg...

The instantaneous and overall MPG readout affected my driving habits...AND,I promise not to be "That Guy" hyper-mileing in the fast lane...

The only two variables for MPG differences from last summer were: Engine Break-in and a switch from conventional oil to synthetic.

Without having real test data, I'm inclined to believe the Engine Break-in period of last summer is the biggest factor. Temperatures from last summer and this summer are almost identical, so I'd rule out the oil type effects on MPG with respect to thickness and cold starts.

Nothing else was changed or modified on my truck. Driving patterns are constant, I fill up with the same brand fuel (and gas station at that), no installation of fuel monitoring gauges (just old fashioned dividing the fillup amount by the total mileage driven since the last fillup) to influence my driving patterns, everything else is stock/original on my taco.

Not sure I can go along with you there. Your gas mileage showed no 'break-in' improvement for the first four months. Now, over a year later, not only has fuel economy improved, but it continues to climb. So you are saying that your engine is still breaking in after about 10,000 (554 gal x 18 mpg) miles? There has to be a different explanation, IMO.

I still think your chart is cool.

    Question:
Will your mpg # go down if you upgrade to the cat-back exhaust (TRD Performance Exhaust System from Toyota)?

I am new to this forum. I cannot find the answers.

If you can keep your driving habits the same there will not be any loss of mpg. If you enjoy the sound of the exhaust and your foot gets heavy then you will have a little loss at that point.
