Interesting. But I won't believe it until people who own them use them in "real world" driving and report their mileage.

I saw a Motor Trend article today that rated the Colorado / Canyon as the best mid-size pickup? Based on the GM spec sheets, since they haven't driven or tested them yet ?! Well that's certainly objective.

Seems like a lot of hype over the new GM twins. Time will tell. I still think the Colorado front end looks very Tacoma like. At least the Canyon looks like a smaller Sierra.

Oh, by the way, VB here also. Strawbridge area off of London Bridge Rd. :)

It's been out since '04 really[IMG], even though one year really makes no big difference. Just me being pedantic and pissed at Toyota taking forever, that I refuse to tack off one year on the 2nd Gen's life cycle (11 years). I hope that the quality of 2011-14 models are not a preview of what's to come.

I agree, I owned a 2007 PreRunner AC V6. I also drove a 2010 Access Cab V6 4x4, 2012 Access Cab 4x4 V6, pre-2011 Double Cab 4x4, and more manual Tacomas. Of all of them (all 6-speeds), I hate the drive of the 2012-13s and my own 2014. I don't know what happened with TMMTX assembly, but something changed unfavorably for me from the NUMMI builds.

IDK if someone corrected things via servicing on the others, but I feel disappointed with my '14 and wish I got a used 2009-10 V6 4x4, then swapped out the grill with a Satoshi or 2011 grille.

Since 2010, as the current gen was developed from 1999 and came out in 2004. 2016 design had to have been locked in last year, hence the test mules from January. I agree about how Toyota has overly focused engineering resources on the Tundra, leaving the Tacoma to stagnate.

As pbm317 and I have confirmed, it is Q3 2015 for the 2016 model year and being unveiled ahead of that in the first half of 2015. Likely Chicago in February 2015.

Um, no? That is not how development works, that is unless you work for Toyota's engineering teams and see everything from the onset. That doesn't even happen with companies that have ridiculous lead times. Test mules usually precede a new model by no more than "roughly" 2 years on the high end and 1 year on the low end.

And the "don't believe it until you see it" viewpoint is unnecessary at this point, as development is coming to a close, meaning more people have access to information about it and are NOT lying (especially pbm317, myself). NDAs are in place, so one cannot say too much.

Thank you for re-confirming that for everyone, especially as a few keep pessimistically debunking that or remain unnecessarily skeptical.

It should've been and also based fully on the 2010 4Runner, but unfortunately it may have not been as profitable, during decision making around the 2008 collapse.

There are many out there, but if you want to be Toyota-specific, this is one of their longest or even the longest-running US Toyota model. Even the Ford Ranger had more significant changes to it than the Tacoma between 1991 and 2002. Toyota never kept their trucks (nor any other models) this long until now, even with the prior Hilux generations (7 years at most).

We are all justified in our frustration and questioning Toyota's Tacoma neglect. For awhile, I was very happy that GM made noise about these two a few years ago, so that Toyota would get the ball rolling for 4-5 years of development on a new model. If Toyota had waited much longer than early 2016, I would've been happy if they obliterated Tacoma/Frontier in sales as a punishment for us waiting until late 2016-18.

Correct 2wd mpg figures, I think the 4wd is 17/24..still pretty impressive. I'm not very keen on the stop/go when braking, only time will tell if issues develop.

Real world could be better then the ratings or worse, my Taco is rated 16/21 and I consistently get 18/23. I can see Motortrend already blowing smoke, this truck has the latest technology and better specs then the Taco on paper so they are going to talk highly of it.

Nice to see another vb guy, I'm over in Landstown lakes off Holland road.

This truck might be a hit it might not, Toyota may kick GM in the pants next year with the release of the new Tacoma. Gm has finally brought a competitive truck to the midsize market, there last iteration 04-12 Colorado was a failure. If The Tacoma had todays latest Technology this new Colorado wouldn't be a threat.

So I'm supposed to believe everything I read/see on the internet . I've given pbm317 his due in my post.

Seriously, no need to be a dick.

I somewhat know how the Auto industry works. Half my family did or at one time work at GM. Several of them were heavily involved with Hummer until that fiasco ended. Sometimes test mules are used for NEW POWER TRAIN COMBINATIONS, which is what I was GUESSING was Toyota's next move since, let's face it, that test mule has same skin new guts. I see new motors, than new truck, in a longer time frame. If I'm wrong who cares. At least I'm honest when I say where I'm bringing my information from. Plus, I'm not one of those guys hoping for a first gen sized Taco to come back LMFAO.

Toyota NEVER rushes anything to market. Could the new Tacoma be ready for the 2016 model year. Possibly. Is it a certainty? Unless you're on the board for Toyota I doubt you have that info. Either way I have enough money into my Taco I'm keeping her till she dies :D. I'm guessing the new Tacoma will again, as every other truck has done, be less truck and more car like without significant mods.

None of that extra mpg's are going to matter sitting in the service department waiting room.

That's unsurprising. I averaged 22 on my last tank, and that's in a truck that was designed 10 years ago. If they can swing 25mpg out of a full-size Dodge and 24mpg out of a full-size Chevy, they should damn well be able to get 26mpg out of a mid-size truck.

Shrug. Just think of all the money you'll save driving back and forth to the dealership, though.

Let's be honest guys, as reliable as we consider our trucks.....pretty much ALL cars are fairly reliable these days. No one makes a "bad" truck in terms of reliability these days.

But I agree, the MPG numbers aren't anything special. Now, the Dodge Ram 1500 with the small diesel that gets 28mpg on the highway...THAT is special!

I disagree. My buddy has a Colorado. The one with the Isuzu drive train. It's a turd! Inferior in every way. Even with my Tacomas four recalls, it's far superior and has NO issues at five years old.

How many recalls has his Colorado had? Any breakdowns that have left him stranded? What work has he had to put into it other than routine maintenance like brakes and tires?

Almost everyone here is biased towards the taco, truth is when a better truck comes along it's natural to go on the offensive. If Toyota would update their 10 year old piece of shit design there wouldn't be all these 'chebby colorado' threads.

What's crazy about the new Colorado is if you look on the Colorado forums they are unhappy with the mpg news and design of the truck.

At first I was surprised when I saw the 26mpg 2wd rating yesterday but once I looked into it more the 4wd only gets 1mpg better then my 4wd taco with older technology.

I owned one of the last gen Colorado's, traded it in when it left me stranded due to the ecm failing at 80k, it wasn't a great truck.

    ?
    The Colorado in a 4x4 V6 is rated for 18 City/24 Highway.
    A 2014 Tacoma 4x4 V6 is rated for 16 City/21 Highway...

Oh, right. My mistake. I misread the article the first time.

So that's only 1mpg; is all of your driving in the city? That must suck.

The first gen Colorado/Canyon was a major turd. The new one might be better but that remains to be seen. I think a vehicle needs to be at LEAST 5 years old to start talking reliability and quality and real world driven to start throwing out MPGs.

I can already picture a future Colorado owner review

"I bought it 15 days ago, I have 375 miles and this truck is awesome much better than my friends 2014 Tacoma, hes an idiot. wwwwooooo"
