Thanks for the link, good read. I do also agree about the orientation being an issue with the micro sized drones. I was mainly looking at the x4 thinking about indoor use, at home and around my office, Im not sure how well it would do outdoors.

Yeah, I'm still not sold yet on one for sure. It looks like a ton of fun. The thing that I hate is seeing how long it takes to charge a battery compared to how much flight time you get. I know weight is a HUGE factor. This is one of the reasons I would like to get a copter that has a removable battery, so that I can have 4 or 5 batteries charged up, and swap them out as I go! Nothing sucks more I bet than the get into flying, and having a great time, only to stop short because of battery life!

I find it's easier to fly it outside at night... The LEDs are bright enough that you can tell its orientation and you can see it easier

On another note I'm aware that a full size dslr camera won't work with a phantom, but has anyone heard of someone using that really small Nikon, I think it's a Nikon one or something, Asston Kutcher always had commercials with it

I used my phantom with my gopro for about 8 minutes at a time, you could rig up a point and shoot to one and probably would see the same results, only issue I would see is how you would control the shutter.. or just have one set to take bursts every few seconds

It would be difficult to do while flying a copter, but there is a GoPro App that you can install on your phone where you can not only see what the camera sees, but can also control it to take video, or snapshots.

I guess you could set a timer and let it take so many photos after so many seconds, but it would be tuff to set the zoom to what you wanted

I'll just end up using my gopro for a while then maybe someone will come up with something or I'll toy with it for a little

I wouldn't recommend doing this. The Wifi range is quite short compared to range of a quad. Also, everything I've read has strong warnings to disable wifi on the gopro as it can interfere with the Tx/Rx.

So it turns out my X8R Rx also doesn't support CPPM. For some stupid reason I assumed S.Bus and CPPM were the same. So now I've ordered S.Bus -> CPPM converters, another $30 burned up. Now I wish I had just bought the D4R-II, cheaper and supports CPPM out of the box. Oh well live and learn.

I had no issues, the range sucks when you fly over 50' away though
I would prefer S-bus for 1 wire vs multiple wires lol, can't get my s-bus to work with my naza

Yeah, unfortunately the Naze doesn't seem to support S.Bus. I really don't want to wire it the conventional way, too many wires. So a converter I must buy, lol.

I'm at that point now where I'm starting to get embarrassed when people ask me how much I've spent on this hobby.:D

Hmmm. I haven't heard that myself, and see a lot of quads that use the GoPro app. Maybe it is dependent on the quality of the quad's receiver? Maybe the more expensive quads have a better filter on the receiver? Not sure, just making guesses myself. lol.

Could possibly be related to the receiver. It's just a warning I've seen on forums from others. As Large mentioned, he did get it to work, but with limited range. Just be crazy like me and spend a little over a $100 to get live video streaming up to 1km!

    oil change...

This was my first quad. cheap and easy to learn on.
    http://www.amazon.com/Syma-Channel-...id=1409862668&sr=1-6&keywords=quadcopter+syma

It has a low and high setting so when you are outside you can turn the high setting on and really zip around and do flips with the press of a button. Extra batteries are just a couple bucks each.
I soldered some LEDs on the ends of the arms just for fun and night flying.

I just got this micro quad (about half the size of the other one I linked)
    http://www.amazon.com/Hubsan-H107L-...&qid=1409862966&sr=1-5&keywords=quadcopter+x4

Size of the hubsan x4. The Amazon pics are kind of missleading

This little sucker zips around really fast but can hover very still also. They make a version with a camera also and you can record to a micro SD card on it.
    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EXBDXXI?psc=1

Just make sure the seller is in the US otherwise shipping can take a few weeks... My spare battery is coming from china, some time in october... :faceplam:
