Actually, the EPA no longer tests at 55 MPH as their "Highway" test. They stopped doing that in 1999.

The highway test cycle, called the US06 Cycle, tests at 80 mph. This is why today many cars meet or nearly meet their highway EPA estimates even at 75-80 mph speeds. The new US06 Cycle is designed to replicate the increased speed limits we have seen over the last few years.

The US06 Cycle is also aggressive in acceleration. The FTP Cycle (The EPA's 11 mile city test cycle) requires leisurely acceleration equivalent to an 18 second 0-60. However the US06 Cycle demands acceleration to highway speed equivalent to a 7 second 0-60: full throttle for most vehicles.

My GMC Sierra is rated for 22 mpg highway, and unless there is a significant headwind, it achieves that easily even at 75 mph.

My old Tacoma 2.7L would also easily hit its 21 mpg rating at 75 MPH.

The EPA test is pretty accurate and I would not expect the Colorado to have any trouble achieving the claimed 26 MPG highway.

    What a great looking truck.

It's like they took everything that was wrong with the Tacoma, and fixed it.

GM should do this kind of thing more often.

Disappointing there is no tranny cooler, they lacked this on the last Colorado.

Crazy that this truck is rated higher mpg then an equinox, still wish they would have went with the 4.3l which is a truck engine vs. this car engine 3.6.

This new Colorado does offer some excitement because of all the new features it has, and I to was considering one. But at the end of the day I know that my Tacoma will last longer then the Colorado and the Toyotas also "age" better then Chevys. I bought my Tacoma after the final straw when my 2005 Colorado's computer died at 80k miles! Chevy can add all the luxury items they want to this truck but Toyota does things Chevy never even attempts, like the protective film on the rock chip prone areas on our trucks. Another good aspect of our trucks is they are very easy to work on, for example rear diff drain plug, wont find that on a GM always have to remove the rear diff cover and get a new gasket. Its going to be interesting once these actually hit the streets and we see some real world reviews.

Well, even though there wasn't a long list of options for the 2011 2dr. base Taco(next to nothing), I still bought one brand new. And $6K cheaper than a comparable Colorado. I don't do Nissans. My '96 Altima was made poorly, and cost too much to repair. And yes, toyota will do just fine. Just on Whidbey Island alone, I saw about 35 Tacoms in an hour yesterday...

I love this!! My father keeps talking crap to me because he is getting rid of his 2013 Tacoma for the new Colorado so all I keep hearing is what that truck has that mine doesn't. I cant wait until the first time he calls me to pick him up when his Colorado breaks down, heck his second vehicle he has right now is a GM and it has been one issue after another lately. Guess some people don't learn :notsure:

I'll be very surprised if GM isn't headed into bankruptcy again in 10 years. Absolutely nothing has changed, they are still making cars that just make it to the end of the warranty before the major problems start and hardly giving a thought to how something will be serviced when the time comes because it's not their problem.

Never heard of a Tacoma's hood unexpectedly opening while driving... Guess that's just a GM thing.
