You will be fine. I only needed 4wd a few times to go up 2 or 3 hills but I was going slow taking in the sights and could have done it in 2wd with a little speed. Stock height and truck tires will get it done. Just air down a little to make the ride smoother and help your tires grab around the rocks.

Haha. I'm not scared to put her sideways with the skinny pedal. I did 10 years up north with a 2wd s10. Had to carry speed to make it anywhere in the snow.

It's 8-9 for me plus the 2 hour drive once you get in the park.

    Hmmmmm…
I didn't know state or national parks had off road trails? I thought they were opposed to that type of stuff.

I would enjoy visiting in the fall. If i am still in my current job, October, November or December would be my only available times to go. Should i change job, spring break, summer, thanksgiving and Christmas would be good times. :)

Any info on trail names so i can investigate the area?

All I need is a date for 2015, I am planning my trailer build now. I am 2/3 the way set up with my armor. The trailer should have a either solar cells or a genuine, some onboard water, RTT and all the rest of the silliness. I would like to go BB before it gets to hot and would still like to hit Jambo as well, I will be heading to the Gulf to kayak fishing during the summer and October, well every October.

So I am in for late winter early spring.

I would think driving that far down there I would want to spend at least 3-5 days not including the day to travel there and back

Too poor to list anything interesting.

National park doesn't have trails, per se. Just really unmaintained roads. River Road (~8 hour drive) is the most popular and heavily driven on. Followed by Old Ore road.(~4-6 hours), and then there's a little segment called black gap which is the "worst" of the roads.

I'm not too sure about the State Park, but I hear the trails are fun and you're very isolated.

Doesn't appear to be that bad if street tires can do it lol

I haven't been to Big Bend for several years. Spent about 10 days there once. the first 3 were down on the Rio but then headed up into the mountains to get away from the mosquitoes. Did a 6 hr hike to see "the window". that was pretty cool.

It really wasn't. I was just nervous about driving a month old truck out there and coming back with dents. So I drove slow as hell :turtleride: The trails are easily driveable, and no one ended up with thorns in the tires. NP seems to be the more casual of the Big Bends in the way of driving off road.

Here's a google maps of the Big Bend network. Lots of trails, camps, and what have you.
